“Cold room, Internet access no good”

Overall, stay was not very satisfying. I will not stay here again, as there are other hotels that give better value. The internet and temperature problems (see below) are not acceptable.

Pro's (+) and con's (-) below:

(+) Friendly front desk staff was very nice and quick to check me in.

(+) Clean, spacious room. Carpet, bed mattresses and linens look new. Bathroom, sink, and shower are nice and clean.

(+) Pretty good location, ~8 blocks from white house and just a few blocks from the Verizon center.

(-) King size rooms were sold-out. Company reserved rooms for me month in advance. Could be my company's doing to give me a room with double beds. Either way, the double bed is still comfortable.

(-) Internet comes at 2 speeds: slow and slower. If I remember prices correctly, it's $9.99 for 256 kbps, and $14.99 for a faster speed (but they don't say what the speed is). WORSE: I pre-paid internet for 3 days, but it didn't work for the latter 2 days.

(-) Temperature control of the room was poor. Room was very cold, and even programming the thermostat to 90 degrees didn't warm it up. It seems like the heat only works during the night, when I woke up sweating. Otherwise, I was cold with jeans and 3 layers of shirts (t-shirt, button-down dress shirt, and pull-over sweatshirt).

“Nice Hotel”

Grand Hyatt Washington

The Grand Hyatt Washington is a nice hotel, with a "lagoon" in the lobby area. Overall, here where the pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Service: I found the staff to be very friendlly and helpful. The waitstaff in the Grand Cafe lobby restaurant was very attentive.

2. Rooms: The rooms were clean and comfortable.

3. Business Center: There is an onsite business center where you can make last minute copies and print out documents.

Cons:
1. Price: The Grand Hyatt is expensive, but sometimes you can get a good deal if you're booking last minute and there is availability. I'd recommend searching the usual online websites (Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc.) and then going to the Hyatt website to book. If you found a lower rate on one of the travel websites, Hyatt guarantees that it will beat that rate.

2. Grand Slam Sports Bar: As good as the service is in the Grand Cafe, I found the service in the sports bar to be slow and forgetful.

Overall, a nice but pricey hotel.

“OK, but not "Grand"”

Grand Hyatt Washington

Apr 6, 2008

The actual hotel building and lobby/atrium is very dated and tacky, aside from that, the guest rooms are updated, simple, and very typical of other Hyatt's we have stayed in. No flat screen TV in our room, but it did have an iHome iPod docking station.

The valet service was incredibly slow, it took the one man who was working (at 3pm, peak check-in time) at least 20 minutes to take our car (as he managed to valet the cars of a few people who'd come in after we did). Even at check out getting our car took awhile, though more people were attending to the cars. They even had "lost" one man's car--though eventually it turned up.

As typical with hotel convenience/souvenir shops the hotel's store was quite expensive. For soda's and water, shop off site.

The hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as shopping. The International Spy Museum is also a short walk, and the National Mall is also walk-able from here. Do use common sense when walking around, especially at night.

“Enjoyed the Grand Hyatt”

Grand Hyatt Washington

5 of 5 stars
Washington DC
Apr 2, 2008

I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Grand Hyatt Washington. I didn't pay as I was there as part of a conference scholarship, but I really found it to be a wonderful place. The room was clean, comfortable and had all the necessary business amenities. Check in and out was easy and I was particularly impressed with the food, catered by Hyatt, at the conference events. The room service dinner I had was also above average and delivered quickly. In fact, I was impressed that the room service people called me some time after delivery to check in on how I was enjoying my dinner! The Metro stop right in the hotel was great, and I had an easy 1/2 mile or so walk to the Mall with all of its sights. Overall, I'd stay here again and recommend it to others, even if I had to pay!

“"Grand" Hyatt?? Hmmmmm.”

Grand Hyatt Washington

Apr 2, 2008

Reserved a "Club Level" room with Hyatt for the first weekend of the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Nice hotel, average for a Hyatt property. Got in about an hour and a half early and they let us check in, which was nice.
Got up to the room, looked the same as every other Hyatt room I've stayed in. So really, no difference between Club Level and any other room in the hotel. And really, for being on the club level, the room should have been bigger or laid out differently. You're paying more for Club level, you should have a better appointed room with more space.
The breakfast in the club lounge was good. Nice variety, but still pretty much a continental.
And the evening "snacks and drinks"...snacks, ok. Drinks???
Iced tea, lemonade, soda and water. If you wanted "drinks" you had to "put them on your room". C'mon, you can't afford to give out some free adult beverages? That's kinda cheap, considering what you pay to stay there.
The housekeeping really lacked in the hotel. Our room was clean, but it was such a pleasure to come back to the hotel from being out all day and still seeing your neighbor's room service food still sitting out in the hallway. Ummm, hello...roaches and rats???
And speaking of "housekeeping", all weekend we saw not 1 male housekeeper. Saturday, while we were taking a nap (with the privacy sign CLEARLY displayed in the door), we were awakened by a male saying he was from housekeeping. The door was latched by the cross bar and that was it. He tried numerous times to force his way into the room while we're yelling at him that we didn't need housekeeping. He finally gave up after a few minutes of trying to force his way into the room. When we went to check the door, we found the cross bar had gone from against the door and secure, to sticking straight out half unlocked. SCARY!!
We told the front desk and they seemed pretty disinterested. A simple, "we're stepping up security on that floor" was all we got.
Thanks!
All in all, its an ok hotel. Beds were comfy, ipod dock was nice, Club level certianly shouldn't cost more than the rest of the hotel because that's a joke.
I wouldn't stay here again, but I don't think its a craphole.
Just a bad experience with Hyatt in general.
