I stayed two nights at this Marriott for work. It was chosen by the arrangers of a class I was taking, and I believe they chose it for its location near the metro station. It is directly above the DC metro and you only need to walk a very short distance to get to the entrance to the metro from this hotel.
Pros: The location was great. You can walk to the White House, Old Post Office, the Mall, and all the other metro DC attractions, plus you can take the metro everywhere. The beds were wonderful, soft and fluffy like you get at most Marriotts. The gift shop was nice and had lots of unique things in it. They have a Starbucks in the lobby. The freebies in the room are high quality Bath and Body Works Orange Ginger scented shampoo, conditioner and lotion.
Cons: There is no parking at this hotel, and valet is $30.00 a day. You really have no choice. There is only a small pull-up area for your car for valet. The location on 12th and G is a little hard to drive to in rush hour - it took us an hour to drive there from Bethesda at 5:30 pm. The bellman will take your bags up to your room regardless of whether you want him to or not - I had one small carry on bag, but he insisted, and then when I got to my room, I only had a $20.00 bill, and he told me he had change and gave me change for the $20 so that I could tip him. I did not feel comfortable with this since he was in my room at this point, he had let the door close and basically I felt I had no choice but to tip him. My co-worker ate at the restaurant in the hotel, and it took them an HOUR to serve him a sandwhich. He said they apologized, but stil it was excessive. My coworker also did not see the sign on the bottle of Fiji water they have in the room and was charged $5.00 for it.
Overall, I perfer the Crystal City Marriotts over this one since they have better restaurants and parking options, and are also close to the metro.
