“Fantastic Hotel! Great Customer Service!”

JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue

5 of 5 stars
New York City
May 14, 2008

The staff at the JW Marriott Hotel was very nice. We (my husband, 2 sons --ages 19 months and 7 years old--, and I) booked our trip online from the hotel's website. I indicated that it would be nice if we were upgraded to a room with a view and that I needed a crib. When we checked into the hotel, the staff was friendly, gave the kids great souvenirs and upgraded our room #1239! It had a shared balcony that overlooked everything, including the White House. We even saw Marine 1 land for the President before he jetted off to his daughter's wedding. The location is fantastic with kids. It's close to everything, including reasonably priced restaurants. I really enjoyed our stay. We used valet parking, and called ahead as requested when we needed our car. We had no problems. It was a memorable trip...thanks in part to a classy hotel. My only issue is that there were small things in the room that needed to be fixed and you could tell that some of the previous fixes weren't done to the best degree. For instance, the magazine holder on the desk kept breaking, the cordless phone next to the bed didn't work and some work previously done in the room looked sloppy. Room service is a bit pricey, but very nice portions and excellent taste!

“Clean, friendly staff, great experience”

JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue

Darien, Illinois

The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating with us. Valet parking was $35 a day. Room was clean and bright with a very comfortable bed. Food options were a little limited - two restaurants and the Starbucks in the lobby. Walking distance to many of the sights - White House, Wash. Memorial, National Mall, Smithsonian. All within 10-15 minute walk. Would definitely stay there again. We did priceline at the last minute and got a great deal.

“Worth the money”

Enjoyed a short break in Washington - first time I'd visited the city but Mr AG had been several times. Chose the hotel primarily on star rating and location - literally 5 min walk to the White House. Airy large hotel - friendly staff - nice rooms - we had one looking over the parkland by the white house. Geared up for both business and leisure - treat yourself!

“The Right Choice”

JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue

Highly recommended if you:

- are a family with children. Stick with the Stay For Breakfast plan but get there early enough so you don't have to wait (15 mins or so).
- are in need of a hotel near the National Mall and White House.
- want a view of Penn Ave and the monuments.
- want easy access to Metro.

You can't beat the location for the price! Very courteous staff. Getting your valet-parked car can take some time so try to give enough advance warning - this is a big hotel by DC standards! Quiet rooms. Remember, these are city hotel rooms so they aren't huge - you're here to sightsee and not hang out in your room anyway. Great views (make sure you ask for one or you'll stare at the interior courtyard/ other rooms). It has all the amenities you'd expect from the JW line of Marriott hotels. A CVS pharmacy is nearby for any needed items. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance around the corner or in Georgetown (taxi is $12.50 plus tip one-way) so we didn't eat dinner at the hotel.

“Memorable Vacation”

JW Marriott Hotel Pennsylvania Avenue

We just returned from a five night stay at the JW for a vacation with our son, his wife, and our eleven year old granddaughter. We were given adjoining rooms and on a higher floor as requested with a view of the Washington Monument. I took a clue from a reviewer's tip and they were very accommodating. Our family enjoyed both the pool and the gym. Our granddaughter had room service and loved the treat. They even have a children's menu. The hotels recent renovation was wonderful and the staff from every department greeted you with a smile. The location is convenient for walking to many of the sites in addition to good restaurants and even a food court next door to the hotel. A good choice is the Old Ebbitt Grill, but reservations are a must have. Our only negative experience was the valet parking. It took 40 minutes one evening to get the car. The hotel did call our restaurant and even offered to get us a paid taxi after waiting 30 minutes. We will remember our wonderful vacation.
