The hotel is decent. But the concierge service is terrible. You will have a better luck with Google than talking to them.

I agree wiith other reviwers, definitely not a 4 star property. I stayed there just after the Spitzer fiasco and now know for sure that the former Gov. must have had a few nuts loose. The rooms are ragged and in need of rehab. The bathrooms are tiny and old fashioned. Not that I watch much TV while on the road but the set was a 14 inch old box stuck in an armoire that couldn't be seen from a distance. The small windows let in the minimum of light.
So many better choices in this great town.

I just wanted to give a belated nod to our stay at this hotel in 2007. I could review the facilities, but why bother when they've been reviewed by everyone else. The place was clean, which is my major concern in any hotel, and very well maintained. The Starbucks in the lobby was a hit with the kids for breakfast...convenient and cheap for Washington. Walking distance (a few blocks) to reasonable restaurants and the subway.

The reason I wanted to mention this hotel stay is that we got a GREAT deal on a room because there were few conventions in town the week we were there, so the hotel drastically lowers its prices to fill rooms. Ordinarily, for a family stay, it would be out of our room budget, but it's worth checking out before you book somewhere in the burbs for the same price.

Was in town to watch the Leafs beat the Caps, and stayed at the Ren DC for its location. Overall the hotel is fine. Rooms and public areas are very clean and comfortable. The people we met are courteous (front desk, restaurant, housekeeping). If passing through just for a one-nighter, this would not be a bad choice if the rate is good.

There was a conference going on when we stayed. Maybe more than one. Lots of people. But it didn't seem to diminish the level of service. Doorman was apathetic, but well, this is only a Renaissance. But otherwise, everyone else was very nice.

We did a self-park, with the entrance just around the corner. It's easy and costs $22 a night (vs $27 + tip for valet). You also get in and out over the 24-hour period. Elevators take you straight to the hotel lobby.

Checkin was efficient (despite convention). Our room was ready for us (it was around 4), and the extra towels I requested were in the room. We also got the "away from elevator" request fulfilled.

Room was pretty standard-sized. Bathroom smallish but ok. Clean room, though. There's a mini fridge in the room. Coffeemaker. Hispeed internet, both wired and wireless. Standard tube TV, which was a surprise. Standard Lather toiletries. Overall, room was fine.

Had breakfast in the restaurant. It was an okay buffet for 17.95. Nothing to complain or to write home about.

All in all a decent stay. This would be one of those I'd consider for a quick in and out. Nothing spectacular, but pretty solid.
