“Great Dupont Circle Hotel”

The hotel is located about 5 blocks from the Red Line Dupont Circle Metro Station. It is surrounded by many embassies. The hotel staff was nice, and most of them spoke English. It is relatively small and there is a bar with a continental breakfast, but not really a restaurant. You will definately want to take the walk down to the Jury Hotel on New Hampshire & Dupont Circle and eat at Dupont Grille.

The rooms have a kitchenette - but you really don't want to cook in there - it is smaller than my closet at home and you can't fit much into the mini frig and there isn't a oven - just two burners on a stove and the microwave.

It is a quiet place - we stayed over New Year's Eve and didn't get woken up - so it is a great place for small kids. Also they allow pets - large ones. We saw someone with a standard poodle and a lab owner.

Also - bring a Ethernet cable if you want access to the high speed Internet - we were able to get onto the wireless in one spot, but that was only because we were on the second floor right above the business center.

    • Disliked — No good wines at the bar - not really a full-service restaurant

The hospitality is very bad. The manager is very rude, 1-800 calls from the hotel aren't free and they are very expensive, the room is dirty, the bed is full of hair,we had to change the sheets at 8:00 in the evening. We Had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I recommend not to go there.
DONT GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful 3-night stay here. We were happy with the price we paid, since DC hotels can be much more expensive! This hotel is in a good area, just a few blocks from the Dupont Circle (and metro!), close to fantastic restaurants and a Safeway grocery store. The proximity to the grocery store is convenient, since our room had a kitchenette (2 burners, toaster, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee machine). Unfortunately, we didn’t have any coffee! And neither of the burners worked! But it was still a great suite, with a great shower (strong pressure)! They also have a free parking lot behind, but it really is TINY. I think there were maybe 10 parking spots?? And guests of the Carlyle are also allowed to use a nearby huge gym (Washington Sports Club) for free, which was great!

“Not a bad choice”

I generally agree to the last 2 or 3 writers; the hotel is an ok choice if you want to stay in a good location in down town Washington. I have to say that I didn't like that when I arrived there was construction on-going in the lobby, I was not aware of this construction. We were on a vacation with our 2 girls and I simply dont want construction in the hotel I stay in with my family on a vacation trip. I stay in hotels often due work travel and then I dont mind as long as my sleep is not disturbed, but with the family I would have booked somewhere alse if I knew. The construction did not bother us much though.

The hotel is a bit strange in colours indoors, purple, gray and black are ruling colours. Very modest looks.

The room we got was fine, but plainly decorated in a rather cold way (steel and glass kinda of setting). I missed a sofa to sit on and a bath tub. The two double beds were fine. The kitchen utensils were all ok and working. I missed though that there were no coffie filters with the coffie machine and certainly no coffie. This means you have to go out to the nearest shop to buy filters b4 you make your coffie. Safeway is around the corner almost so it's not a big deal but after a 8 hrs driving... huh!

Another thing, the hotel could not provide us with transformers to use our European equipment in the hotel (110V to 220V). So, if you are European traveller, take a transformer with you.

Would I stay there again? I doubt it, at least it's not gonna be my first choice.

“Good, reasonably priced option”

The Carlyle Suites

4 of 5 stars
Ottawa, ON
Nov 6, 2007

Stayed 3 nights in October 2007 with wife and two young children. Room was clean and well maintained, but the Art Deco accents couldn't hide the fact that this is a rather plain building.

Kitchenette was well supplied with plates, cutlery, glasses and utensils, and was very functional. The table in the sitting/dining area, however, was too small; a coffee table rather than a dining table. Beds were very comfortable. As noted elsewhere, shower only (a strange decision, since it's a huge shower stall and could easily have fitted a bath). Staff were friendly and professional, but we had limited contact; no special requests made.

Location is excellent: close to restaurants and the Metro, but also very quiet. Good shopping nearby as well; check out the Firehook Bakery at Dupont Circle.

For the price, a good buy, but I wouldn't make it my automatic choice for a return visit. My benchmark for this kind of place is the Hotel Beacon in New York, and this lacks the space, comfort and quirky charm of that hotel.
