“Great Location but disappointing room”

Our room, designated "deluxe" on our reservation, was older, very small, and quite rundown and shabby, with a noisy heater and toilet that ran, awakening us often through the night. There was NOTHING deluxe about the room.
The common areas are lovely - very elegant and spacious, and the staff were welcoming and friendly
The location is fantastic - wonderful shops and restaurants all around, beautiful residential streets and the historic canal just steps away.
We loved the area, but would not choose to stay here again - would find another hotel in the area.

“This is not a great hotel”

The rooms were older and quite rundown. There is little insulation so you hear all of your neighbors. The bathroom smelled of urine.

We were a little skeptical when we read the reviews for this hotel but they appear to be the reviews for a different place.

Sure the hotel is a boutique hotel and that means small, quaint, and classy. That is what you get. The hotel staff was great, the rooms were clean and nice and you were right in the middle of the historical section of Georgetowns shopping , restaurants, and bars.

I have stayed in boutique hotels all over the US and this one ranks at the top with the rest on my list. People confuse me. If your looking for a five star hotel, then book a five star hotel and quit dragging places like this place into the ground. We enjoy our five star vacations, but for an overnight getaway or couple day stay, this place is FANTASTIC.

I think that places like The Latham Hotel are just what most people are looking for when they want a little romantic getaway.

Great Place, Great Stay.

Thank You Latham Hotel!!!

“Great Service, but . . .”

The Latham Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Smithfield, VA
Dec 5, 2007

We recently spent a weekend at the Latham at the behest of some friends we were meeting there. We found the reception staff very friendly and accommodating, as well as the concierge and porters. They were all young and eager to please. The hotel itself, though, leaves a lot to be desired. The web site makes this look like an impressive hotel, but looks are deceptive; the rooms are small and the bathrooms even smaller; the windows are old single paned glass and drafty; street noise is a big problem. The central A/C is very noisy as well. Parking is very expensive, so you are better off parking in the Colonial parking garage at the Georgetown mall on the next block. The well-renown Citronelle restaurant is located in the hotel, but there is no place to eat breakfast or lunch inside the hotel.
One of the employees told me the hotel was scheduled for renovation (long overdue, IMHO), so there's hope.

“Perfect location elegant hotel”

The Latham Hotel

Dec 4, 2007

*LOCATION: Perfect, could not been better (in Georgetown, the best area in DC, lots of shops/restaurant just outside the hotel). 10 min walk to nearest tubestation, but taxis just outside the hotel/street any time of the day/night. Very safe area.
*STAFF: Friendly
*ROOM: Small but very beautiful interior/classic and elegant hotel. Great king size bed. 60 Tv channels. But no in-room safe. Small bathroom.
