“Avoid if possible”

Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

I got stuck here for only one night for a group conference. If I was staying in D.C. for more than one night I would have bailed and found another hotel on my own. Dirty, worn out room. Lights burned out. My door lock was not functioning properly, I could not open the door numerous times. Front desk staff was indifferent. I had a room on the street side, fire dept. right next door, you get the picture. Impossible to sleep. They charged our group $299 per night! However I have to compliment two of the doormen that could not have been more courteous and helpful. I hope they get recruited by a better hotel. I will definitely not go back there again.

“Very nice stay at Washington Court”

Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

May 10, 2008

Got this hotel through Priceline. Very convenient [the "Circulator" bus stops just up the street], nice, clean. The fire station is somewhat of a problem, but I just used earplugs and wasn't bothered. There is a little store on the corner that sells liquor/wine and the go-withs, and a little take-out place upstairs from that. Reasonable walk to Capitol Hill and the Mall. Botanical Garden at that end is beautiful. Would definitely stay here again.

“Stay away from The Front Desk and The Woman Named Betty!!!!”

Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

Where do I begin?? We checked in on a Tuesday afternoon. A couple of hours later I was taking a shower to get ready for dinner and the shower and sink were backing up. I called and they came the next morning to fix it. Well we were lucky enough to have warm weather and beautiful Cherry Blossoms! Because it was so warm the humidity was high. We tried to no end to get the air conditioning to work. When I contacted Betty at the front desk I was lied to!! She told me that they did not turn on the air in the hotel until June and that we should just open our window ! (The window only opened a couple of inches) The next day when Betty was not around I asked another clerk and was told Betty lied to me. Within an hour I had air conditioning. We then had an event to go to and another person in our party asked Betty for a recommendation for a good limo service. The number she gave to us was for a man who promised a stretch limo as we had eight people in our party. When the limo driver showed up he was in a Town Car and his wife was driving a 1998 mini van!! Then another wife in our party had requested a refrigerator the day we arrived and was asked no questions, the refrigerator was delivered in an a hour. (the door was falling off) When another wife asked for a refrigerator she was told (by Betty) unless she was diabetic she could not have one! The hotel used to be nice about ten years ago. But now it is a hell hole!!! Don't stay there.

“The desk clerk rolled her eyes at me. SO RUDE!”

Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

Mar 31, 2008

I was called down to the front desk to receive a message.
The clerk wanted a credit card number to put a $1 charge for a phone call. I said, "I didn't make any phone calls. I use my cell phone for everything." She said, "Well, I need a credit card number to charge the call." I said, "Im sorry I didn't make a call, so I'm not giving you a number." SHE ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. Didn't try to hide it at all. I let it go and just went back to my room.
Later when I was paying for parking ($30 per night) I looked at my bill and there was a $1 charge for a phone call.
Yes, I know it's just a dollar, but I didn't call anyone!
This was among lots of other problems. These people (staff) made me feel very unwelcome and like I was being a pain to them everytime I needed towels or something for the room.
I was paying (ALOT) for their services! That's what they are there for! And I tipped at least the minimums everytime they came!
Oh, well. I'm not going back.

“Don't stay there”

Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

1 of 5 stars
Monroe, Louisiana
Mar 30, 2008

This hotel was terrible. I would never stay again. First of all, I went with my four girlfriends. We are all early 20s and went for Spring Break. We are not wild at all. We did all the sightseeing things during the day and came in pretty early. The hotel staff treated us like we didn't belong there at all. It is obviously a business hotel, but we didn't know that and it certainly didn't warrant them treating us like we were not welcome. When we checked in they did not have our reservation. I booked through priceline and will NEVER do that again because priceline was NO help at all when we were trying to figure out where the miscommunication was and just offered me a full refund for my reservation which would have left me and my four friends in DC with no place to stay. The hotel could not have cared less and basically told us it was our problem.

These kinds of things went on the whole week. At one point the hotel tried to charge us one dollar for a local phone call we didn't make. When we told the woman behind the counter that we didn't make a phone call she rolled her eyes at us and put it on our bill anyway. The charge for wireless internet was 10 dollars no matter how long you use it. Every time you logged on it was 10 dollars. That's ridiculous. Econolodge as free wireless.

I could go on and on, but just do yourself a favor and do not stay here.
