“Very good choice”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Roseville, California
Sep 9, 2008

Stayed here over the weekend using Marriott's 2 nights for 1 offer. The hotel was a pleasant surprise. Yes, this is not a hotel for people with children, but is an upscale contemporary hotel. There was a wedding one night, but the hotel was a quiet and we had a very nice experience. The room we got (king bed) had an extra area which could have fitted a couch, but was empty except for a refrigerator. We stored luggage there. Bed and linen were new and plush. The bathroom was adequately sized and the hot water was really hot. The maid service was excellent. The only complaints - the handrail in the bath was loose and there was only one bathrobe. The breakfast buffet (complimentary for Marriott Elite members) was as good as stated in previous reviews, with an excellent choice and a wide variety of fresh fruit. Used the business center, which has one computer with internet access and one just for printing boarding passes. Parking was easy and not far. Access to and from the highway was great. We had dinner one night at H20 restaurant (black and blue salads) which was just average. There is a great restaurant across 101 called the Cafe 14, which is a much better choice. We would definitely stay here again.

“Great Value”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Atlanta GA
Aug 20, 2008

We traveled as a group of 5, with ages between 13 and 52.

We booked through Expedia at $129.95/night including free breakfast.

The breakfast was fantastic. The full complement of made to order omelet’s, waffles, pancakes, etc. Buffet of sausage, eggs, bacon, berries, melons, cereals, etc. One of the best breakfast selections I have seen in a long time. Service was a tad slow for coffee and juice refills but adequate.

We were given rooms on the 5th (elite level) floor by booking through Expedia which also garnered us the free breakfasts.

We had double-bed rooms that were very comfortable and 42" LG LCD HDTV's. They charge $9.95 for internet connection.

The view is a close-up of the mountains and not the distant ocean or Malibu. Adequate, even pleasant but no water in sight. If you choose the odd numbered room 533, 535 etc you face the front of the hotel and a broader view than the even numbered which abut the mountains.

The location is due north of Point Dume State Beach, Malibu. So a quick 15 minute drive down Kanan-Dume Rd and you're at the beautiful and quiet Point Dume Beach area. This allows you to avoid the heavy congestion on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Turn right onto PCH and follow to Westward Beach Rd (3/4 mile) and turn left.

One bad experience was that I left a very expensive blue men’s blazer and slacks in the closet. It took 6 phone calls and 5 different people before they "found" the items carelessly tossed into a plastic bag. All the while they insisted I had lost the items somewhere else since they didn't find it.

Only after I pushed and continued to push with a strong and determined conviction over several days did the items turn up. No apology offered and more importantly no explanation.

“Consistently outstanding stay”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

4 of 5 stars
birmingham, al
Jul 23, 2008

Having stayed at this property at least 4 times, I can say that I have been very satisfied each time. Staff go out of their way to provide service, get the statement correct, and provide upgrades (I am a Silver Marriott Rewards member). The rooms are adequate to spacious, all well-appointed, and some have lanais. Others have hot tubs or separate tub and shower. Internet access unfortunately costs extra, and the practice of comping this for elite Rewards members has been reduced to one day rather than whole-stay. Refrigerators, while stated as available, are in short supply. Bathroom amenities are plentiful and bathrooms recently upgraded. An electronics upgrade offers alarm clocks with iPod plug-in as well as the ability to play DVDs from your laptop through the large-flat-screen TV. Unfortunately, the previous offering of Starbucks coffee in the lobby has been replaced with in-room coffeemakers, and breakfast, while excellent, comes with a hefty additional charge.

This hotel has excellent meeting facilities for a smallish hotel, and a small business center. There is a large, heated outdoor pool, two large exercise facilities, a putting green, and tables and chairs for outdoor relaxation. Parking can be at some distance from the entrance, especially during events, and side doors closer to some rooms are kept locked from the outside. Long corridors can lead to long walks from the single pair of elevators. On the whole, the level of amenities is tops among Agoura Hills hotels, and the price, especially on weekends, is lower than the nearby luxury hotels. Freeway access is close by, but the freeway cannot be heard from guest rooms.

“Ahh, those hills!”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

My husband and I recently stayed here for three nights for a wedding. We got a great rate and since he is a Platinum Marriott member, we were upgraded to the fifth, concierge floor and had free breakfast, as it was a holiday weekend. The room was large, clean and the bed was very confortable. Our room looked out on pristine hills with not a soul in sight. Our floor was very quiet but beware of teams traveling for tournaments who stay on lower floors and can be very noisy, as kids will be! We ate across the street at Teri's, a very interesting little restaurant that's reasonably priced and serves meals all day long. They have a very varied menu that caters to all tastes. The drive to Malibu beach was breathtaking and we were lucky enough to chat up some locals who told us about a fabulous spot to eat on the beach: Pleasant Cove Beach Cafe. What fun! Again, not too pricey or trendy. I highly recommend the hotel as long as you watch for the teams of screaming and happy girls!

“Great value for a relaxing weekend”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

I booked the hotel through the Marriott web site where I got a great deal for a weekend room with breakfast included. The hotel is beautifully renovated in a nice mountain location close to hiking trails and the Malibu beaches. The staff was exceedingly friendly, and as a gay couple it was nice that there were no awkward questions or funny looks at check-in or during our stay. The only slight down side was the breakfast--it was a bit below the usual standards at other Renaissance properties and the restaurant seemed understaffed at times. Still an exceedingly good deal ($119 a night w/ breakfast) in a really nice location.
