“Very Nice Stay”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Honolulu, HI
Apr 4, 2007
2/3 found this review helpful

The good:
- Quiet area
- Comfortable rooms and beds
- Friendly staff
- Occasional good rates (I happened to stumble upon a weekend rate at half the normal price)
- Free parking
- Bright rooms and hallways
- Colorful (a bit overwhelming at first)
- Good ventilation (A previous review states that there is no bathroom fan. It's correct to say there is no fan in the room, but there is a vent in every bathroom from which air is constantly pulled by a fan on the roof, so the bath steam and room odors disappear quickly).

The bad:
- Hi-speed internet is $10/day.
- Must pass through lounge to get to elevators, whether entering/leaving the hotel or going/coming from the pool.
- Walls are not sound insulated as well as most nice hotels, so we occasionally heard our neighbors
- We had our 'Do not disturb' sign out until 3:30 pm (except for 2 hrs while gone for lunch), and room was not cleaned, even though maid was two rooms down when we left at 3:30. Not a big deal, but expected more at higher end hotel.
- Hallway ceilings are too low - requires ducking for fire sprinklers for very tall folks like me

The recommendation:
- I would stay here again if the rates were within 20 percent of the Hampton Inn, otherwise I would go to the Hampton Inn which has good reviews (and free parking/free internet/complimentary breakfast)

“No sleep - Too loud”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

I wouldn't recommend this place. The walls were paper thin. We heard every single person that walked by our room and got no sleep all night.

Also (to get nitpicky), don't use their "free razors". Ouch!

On the plus side: It was a beautiful hotel. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean (although there was NO FAN in the bathroom!). The room service was AWESOME! Some of the best food I've eaten. I'll go back there for dinner & drinks or breakfast sometime, definitely.

I just will never stay there again.

“I'm here now...”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

I'm here now, and I'm really liking it. The decor is modern and some might be overwhelmed by it. I love the whole post-modern/deco-80's feel of the place. Let it be noted that the rooms are NOT as wild as the public areas. My room's got a giant bed covered with a white down comforter and beige accents. The room is large and the furniture is all rich wood pieces. They have small refrigerators available at no extra cost, but you have to request one for your room.

Note that all the rooms are non-smoking. HOWEVER, some rooms have balconies, complete with ashtrays, and they're not more expensive!

Also note that they DO have wireless internet. It's $9.95 per day, from noon to noon. That's a pretty standard price.

I arrived around 10pm last night and immediately ordered room service. It came less than 15 minutes later, hot and yummy. This morning I went downstairs and had the breakfast buffet for $12. Maybe this is just a weekday price, but what a bargain. A freshly cooked omelette, ripe fruit, good coffee and I was good to go.

When I come to LA on business, I usually stay in Glendale, in the Hilton. But this place is cheaper and nicer, well worth the extra 20 mintues of driving time.

“Entrance through the hotel bar”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

Mar 16, 2006

The lobby is cold, with few chairs or lounge areas to make the entrance inviting. To get to the elevators, you must pass through the hotel bar. In fact, to access the fitness center, pool, or jacuzzi, you must pass through the hotel bar. How would you like your teenage (age 15) daughter propositioned by men in the bar on the way to the elevator? What were they thinking?!

The decor is anything but restful to the eye, smacking more of decorator run amok with chartreuse green, purple, gold, burgundy, & sage green assaulting the eye in the carpeting, drapery, chairs, & framed pictures. The fitness center is strictly utilitarian, oddly split into two small rooms, with a view of melaleucca trees in front of a masonry wall. The single internet connection is only usable for a large fee per minute. The local phone calls cost a buck apiece. The water is $3/bottle. Since everything appeared to have a fee, we were surprised that the refrigerator is free.

The saving grace are the hotel staff. The bell hop was extremely helpful, highly deserving of his tip. The maids (curiously all male on our floor) all spoke English, & cleaned when needed. The front desk staff (all female) were professional & courteous. The chef offered delicious hot beverages gratis on cold, rainy days in the lobby. Nevertheless, compared to other comparable hotels, the hotel would be better served if it could have been more hospitable in a few freebies to the guests like other hotels.

“Loved This Hotel! Just Be Sure You Understand The Location...”

Renaissance Agoura Hills Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Austin, Texas

My wife and I stayed at this hotel when I was interviewing for a job in Los Angeles. The hotel was selected by the company with whom I was interviewing.

We had stayed at two Renaissance hotels: one great (Hollywood and Highland) and one terrible (LAX)...so we weren't sure what to expect.

We were delighted to find a bright, updated, and lovely hotel nestled in the hills of Agoura. Our room looked brand new, and the bed and bathroom were both marvelous.

We had two meals in the hotel's main restaurant, and they were both fabulous. We were extremely impressed.

Service was first-rate.

FOR TOURISTS: *Please* look at a map so that you understand where Agoura Hills is located. It is half-way between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara on US Highway 101. If you are wanting to tour all of the fun sites in Los Angeles, this is **not** where you would want to stay.
