We had the pleasure of staying at this fine property during a four day trip to Disneyland. Our primary reason for selecting this property was two fold.
1) Its close proximity to Disneyland
2) Its multiple bedroom suites, the savings realized vs a traditional hotel (which for us requires two rooms), and the convience of a small kitchen. (maybe that is more than two reasons)
We are a family of two adults and three kids (13, 13, and 8) so the traditional hotel with two beds does not work for us. This forces us to book two rooms at a traditional hotel. We have found that it is usually cheaper and way more convienent to stay at properties such as the Residence Inn that offer mutliple bedroom suites.
The reservation was made via the Marriot website. I found it to be a little cheaper than Expedia, Orbitz etc. I reserved a two bedroom loft for $269 per night.
We have stayed at other Residence Inn properties in the past so we had a preconcieved expectation of what to expect.
Check-in: I selected early check-in on the Marriot website when making the reservation thinking it would do something for us as we were scheduled to arrive around 12 noon. Check-in is advertised as 4:00. We got there around 1:00 and went to check-in. I was told there were no rooms available yet, but I could check back in about an hour. We decided to go eat lunch and come back to check-in after that. After an hour and a half we returned but was told again that no rooms were available yet. I inquired as to what specifying early check-in does for you and was told it only gets you a room before 4:00 if one is available. Lesson learned. We decided that we wanted to head over to Disneyland and start having some fun. We came back from the park at 6:00pm to check-in and had no problems. It seems that most hotels are making check-in times later and later, a trend that I am not particulary happy about. But, they were completely booked, so I can understand somewhat.
Location: The property is located at the corner of Clementine and Disney Way, one block South and two blocks East of Disneyland. It technically is close enough to walk to Disneyland (about a 1/2 mile), but, we figured we would be walking enough so we drove the car and parked in the DL parking lot and took the tram. It was tough call on weather to take the car and pay for parking each day or to use the Anaheim Resort Transit (ART) shuttles, but really for 5 people it was cheaper to drive the car and park than it was to use ART. This property has a ton of dining choices nearby. Most are a very short walk from the property.
The room: We stayed in unit 1722 which is just behind the office and near the common area with BBQ grills (large gas grills). There was alot of people (and noise) around the BBQ grill area which lasted until around 10pm, but after that it was quiet. It is a two bedroom loft which consisted of a small kitchen, small living room (with fireplace) with a pull out bed in the couch, and one bedroom with bunkbeds (full upper/twin lower) and a full bathroom on the same floor. The second bedroom was on the second floor with a full bath. There is only a half wall seperating it from the downstairs living area so it is not private by any means, but was fine for the length of our stay. It was nicely decorated and very modern. Had a full size refridgerator/freezer with icemaker as well. The beds were comfortable and no one complained about them either. One complaint we had was that our aircondition was not working the first day. Normally, this isn't a problem in California this time of year, but it was around 80+ degrees that day, so that plus the fact the unit is a second floor unit (with the loft being the third floor), it was pretty warm and need to be cooled off. We slept with the windows open that night and it eventually cooled off. The next day I informed the staff that the AC wasn't working and they were there in less than 15mins. We did not have any problems with it after that.
The Property: It is a very efficient layout. There is a heated pool, basketball court and a sitting/gathering area with two large BBQ grills and a gas fireplace in the center making for a nice setting for people to get to know each other. For the most part it was quiet except as noted above, but I did not have any problems sleeping even with the windows open the first night. The one drawback is the lack of parking. We always found somewhere to park, but it was never close to our unit. I don't want to give the impression that is was a long way away, but, it wan't right outside our unit either. Nobody in our family complained about it.
The Breakfast: It is unique to this property and I had read about it on trip advisor review before we went. We found that it was a great value and convienence. Nobody in our family complained about not being able to find something they liked. It is the traditional buffet style, scrambles eggs, bacon one day, sausage the next day, pancakes, potatoes, oatmeal, cold cerals, fruit and numerous breads including bagles. We figured that was a savings of at least $40-$50 per day for a family of 5. As others have noted, it is extreamly busy. Even though it was busy, the staff does an exceptional job of keeping up with the crowd. I don't remember waiting on any food to be replenished any morning and they also clean the tables immediately when someone leaves. We only had to search for a table one morning and within 3 mins one was cleared for us. I thought this was an exceptionally efficient run breakfast. It reinforced our reasoning for selecting this property and certainly added value on the cost side of things.
This property exceeded our expectations and I would recommend it to anyone, especially those that need more than one traditional hotel room.
