“very bad experience ,Royal palms”

Belize Yacht Club

My wife and I just returned from what we thought was going to be a great vacation. We were their 14 years ago and said we always wanted to return and we did but had the worst ,most sub standard rooms we have ever stayed at in all our travels . the management would not even try to help and keep hiding to avoid the problems. they stuck us at the royal palms that was a taxi ride down the road.I won't go into details but after 2 nights of hell I finilly got a room at another resort down the beach at banana beach(very nice people and a nice little place to stay).after trying several attempts to get a better room with the yacht club, they would not give up a room .I was able to look at a room at the yacht club and it wasn't much better. If your going to san Pedro,Ambergris caye I highly suggest you stay far away from any dealings with the Belize yacht club and the properties that are managed by them. We did still manage to have a fun time and the diving is still great.

“We had a great time at the BYC last week!”

Dear Sergio, Irma and the rest of the BYC team,

I just wanted to let you guys know what a pleasure it was to stay at the BYC last week. My wife Polly, my daughter Alex and I stayed in units 27 A&B last week. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of being in those units. We had great weather and everyone on the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Jamie always had a smile and an ice cold beverage at the splash bar! Iris and the other housekeepers did a great job keeping our rooms clean and fresh! Roger was especially friendly and we enjoyed knowing he was keeping an eye on things.

We also enjoyed some great diving with Amigos Del Mar and in addition to some great local reef dives where we were treated to spotted eagle rays and sea turtles we had a great all day trip to Turneffe for some fantastic wall dives.

My daughter and I both enjoyed our morning runs down to the water tower adjacent to the Victoria House and back. We rented bikes one day and rode to the Palapa bar and then stopped for lunch at Sweet Basil on our way back to BYC. The front desk also helped us with reservations and water taxi transportation one evening for an outstanding meal at Capricorn.

The grounds and pool were immaculate and the new Siesta beds were a real treat and a great improvement. We did stop in the Casino but gambling is not our thing so I am afraid we didn't stay long.

Thanks again to everyone for making our stay so enjoyable!

“not impressed”

Belize Yacht Club

Cincinnati, Ohio

We just came back from eight days in San Pedro. We stayed at the Royal Palm but had to check in with the Belize Yacht Club. We did arrive early evening but we called the day before to confirm. Unfortunately, the Yacht Club is not managed very well. They could not find the key to our condo at Royal Palm and after several trips by taxi were unable to get in.

After spending several hours in the office and spending many $$$ for taxi rides, the young lady at the front desk gave us a room for the night at the yacht club - no charge. As we were sitting and waiting in the office, every family that came in had their reservation screwed up. From different accommodations than what they reserved to unacceptable conditions. We thought we were being saved however, by getting into the yacht club. It was probably the worst accomodations we have ever experienced in all our travels throught the carribbean. The room was old and tattered. Mini blinds on windows bent and torn, main window on door completely uncovered. No coffee maker, toaster, etc. in kitchen. The bed was disgusting. We both rolled to the center when we got in! This vacation did not start out well.

After spending our first night at this location, we were able to get the keys for the Royal Palm down the road. It was a very pleasant surprise. We ended up with a 2 bedroom instead of a 1 bedroom. The facility was much nicer than the Yacht Club and their pool was bigger and much nicer. Also had a nice beach area.

“Faded Glory”

Belize Yacht Club

Jan 2, 2008

We were quite disappointed in the Belize Yacht Club. Apparently, this was a great place years ago. NOT ANY MORE. The reception area looks like a basement apartment - dark with wood paneling and old furniture. When we checked in the front dest was operated by a young woman wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with jewels spelling the word "sexy". The staff member who showed us to the room did not help us with our bags! We asked for the concierge but no one knew when she would arrive. Granted, we arrived on Christmas day, but the service was bad. At least the grounds were pretty. The pool is barely larger than a hot tub. The bar in the pool was operated by the young woman wearing the "sexy" t-shirt who has no idea how to mix a drink. She had one cd and kept playing the same music over and over all day long. The rooms were worn and torn and dirty - hair on the floor, stained furniture, rusted bathroom fixtures, too soft beds, old pillows, etc. On occassion there was adequate water pressure in the showers. That occassion was once on a thursday morning before we left. As for the lie that it is a fully equipt kitchen, our apartment had no pots and pans, no coffee maker, and a few utensils. When I went to the front desk to ask about the lack of kitchen equipment, I was advised by my freind in the "sexy" t shirt that I could borrow something from the restaurant when it opened the next day. Something told me never to visit the restaurant and I remain unsure as to where it was located anyway. This was a tropical version of a no tell motel and it was way to expensive for this poor level of service. The close location to town and the fact that the air conditioning worked were somewhat reassuring. We checked out other hotels such as Ramon's and Banana and they looked much better. If you can avoid it, don't stay at the Belize Yacht Club.

“The Place to be in San Pedro”

Belize Yacht Club

4 of 5 stars
Fort Lauderdale, FL

This property seems to be one of the more progressive ones on San Pedro. There is a lot of new activity at the resort that will undoubtedly make it the the place to be in San Pedro in the next few years. The Resort is very conveniently located to the center of town, yet the design of the grounds and the layout of the buildings make you feel like you are miles from anything. The beach is adequate, but from what i have seen, there is a major project underway to widen and replenish the beach, and a new world class yacht marina is under construction, the only one of its kind on the island. I happened to be there for the opening of the new casino, again, the only one on the island. The casino is small, but cozy, and very lively. I hear plans to expand the entertainment will include a restaurant and bar and live entertainment. The nice thing is that all this activity is located on the street side of the resort, so even with all this going on, its still quiet and cozy.

The rooms could use a bit of freshening up, and minor upgrades, although the suite I stayed in with my family was very nice, spacious and right on the beach. It was a full 3 bedroom with a full kitchen, private balcony, and felt like home. Worked great for us and two kids. The hotel phones were sketchy at best, but since my phone worked on roaming, it was not a big issue.

All in all, the stay was very pleasant and the staff was always friendly. I would recommend it for anyone that wants a vacation at a place that is cozy, private, but not remote, and where there is more entertainment at the property and to do in the vicinity than just lay on the beach for a week. Also, great for kids, especially the fun they had hanging out on the dock with the local kids fishing on hand lines.
