The cave tubing tour with Vitalino was the best excursion my husband and I did during our cruise the week of April 13th, 2008! Highly recommend Vitalino - you won't be disappointed!
A member of Vitalino's crew met us outside the gate at the Belize dock as indicated in the email we received prior to the tour. Once Vitalino arrived with the tour van - we were off on our adventure. There was supposed to be one other couple in our tour - but they backed out at the last minute - their loss! They missed out on a wonderful, personal tour!
After about a 45 minute drive - during which Vitalino pointed out all the interesting sites and gave us a history of the city - we arrived at the archealogical park. There are very nice bathrooms and changing facilities there if you need to change into your bathing suit. After grabbing an inner tube and head lamp - we were off on a beautiful hike through the jungle. Vitalino was such a warm and knowledgable guide - pointing out interesting plants, showing us a termite mound, and showing us some caves where the Mayan's practiced certain rituals. He gave us a very interesting background on the Mayan Indians and some of their ceremonies that were performed in that area.
The best part of the hike was getting to breeze past all the other *very* large tour groups that were also hiking! We felt relieved that we didn't end up signing up with one of the other cave tubing tour groups - because their groups had too many people - they definitely didn't get the fascinating info that we did.
Once we reached the top of the river - we jumped in - and lazily floated along on our tubes, through some very large caves. It was a really cool experience.
Once we finished exploring the caves in our tubes - we were off for a short hike back to the van, and a drive back to the cruise ship.
Vitalino's cave tubing tour is definitely a don't miss experience!
