First of all...don't go here if you don't dive! You will be severely disappointed. The diving was super. The daily hot water thing or water at all in the showers was aggravating. The Internet in the lobby was extremely slow and one of the monitors was too fuzzy to read. The monkeys in the dining areas were very amuzing. The food was pretty good, but don't look for four star food. Diving burns a lot of calories and we were not very picky about any carbs we took on board! Drinks are expensive. Recommend buying beers from the gift shop at about half the bar rate. There are refers in the rooms. Ask for a room in the new wing.

Just returned from a week at Fantasy Island, and went with a little concern as I had read a couple of the bad reviews. I have no idea what those people were expecting or what happened to them, as I thought it was great.

There was a couple that was there for their 5th year in a row, so that was a great testimonial for me.

Like some of the other reviews indicated, it's at best a 3-star resort, but if you're going there for anything but the diving, don't go. Sure, hot water is a rarity, but the room is comfortable and the food is fine.

What I l enjoyed most is that you get assigned a dive boat and dive master, so spend all week with the same people. It's a great way to get to know everyone, and the people on our boat wound up eating a lot of meals together and everyone became friends over the week.

I would heartily recommend doing the shark dive; it was so exciting and is not to be missed!

A couple of tips - bring cash, as there's a 12% surcharge on credit card payments, and you have to pay cash for an exit fee to leave the country, and for some reason there are no wash cloths so bring one from home.

The diving was incredible, so I would not hesitate to go back.

My family spent spring break at the Fantasy Island Resort on Roatan. If you are a diver and want as much excellent diving as you can handle, than this is the place. If you are looking for a full service resort with lots of activities and a modern facility, then go to Cancun or Jamaica.

The is ok shopping in Coxen Hole, where the crusie ships dock and better shopping on the West End.

If you go, you have to take one afternoon and go on the zip line canopy tours. I suggest South Shore Canopy Tours on the West End.

Roatan is more rustic than the typical Caribbean resort with a well worn appearance. There are also numerous spider monkeys, large iguanas, beach rabbits roaming everywhere. Watch your food and drinks when the monkeys are around!

The dive shop is one of the best in the Caribbean. The diving is very good, with the boat rides 5 – 20 minutes from the dock. The boats return after every dive, so you can come and go as you please. Top notice dive operation with excellent dive masters and 5 dive boats. They put you in a group based on your dive experience, so beginners are not overwhelmed and experts are not frustrated with a slow pace.

The facility is older, wooden, and in need of modernization. The beds are poor quality, and we lost water pressure on 3 occasions during a 7 night stay. The food is average and repetitive for breakfast and lunch. Dinner, however, was very good with fresh wild caught shrimp most nights, lobster night twice per week, and an excellent souse chef that made some excellent bisque.

The swimming pool is small, the bar is dark and lame, internet service is in the old dial up speed age, and there are no organized beach activities.


I would only recommend this destination to avid divers.

My husband and I stayed one week in Fantasy Island.

We loved the beach. Coral Reef and marine life is still in good shape, although most of marine life are small, probably due to overfishing in the area.

The hotel is a 3 star , the shower was cold, hardly no water in the evening, air conditioning did not work properly, towels with holes. All issues that we expected to find in a 3 star.

The food was quite repetitive and not creative, the same salad every day, lunch and dinner.

A few of the night shows were interesting.

DO NOT visit the zoo is very depressing, the animals shoud be let go or moved to a location where they are treated with dignity, the conditions are horrendous.

To balance the hotel defficiencies, the staff were very kind and did their best.

Since this is a hotel catering to scuba divers, most of the excursions did not have enough guests interested, thus we were not able to visit other locations. Even the dolphins had the minimun amount of people, luckly we were able to go. We really enjoyed it.

Be careful with fleas, 3 weeks after we came back my husband is still suffering, do not seat on the matts at the beach. I sat on the towels over the plain plastic, without the mats, I was bitten but not that much. My husband sat on the matts and was bitten from the shoulders down.

The resort is quite safe but use the safety deposit box. Avoid driving the roads are quite dangerous and the area seems very unsafe, there are private security guards everywhere, stores, gas stations, etc. most of them with machine guns., wow.
The tourist areas during the day are heavily pattroled, therefore safe, but I would not venture alone or drive at night.

This the perfect location for sea lovers, beautiful white sand beach, like a swimming pool, cristaline green water and lots of marine life.

Be careful with the little fish under the ladder of the gazzebo, it bits you, he owns the ladder.
