“The UNPLEASANT REALITY”

Riad Hayati

Being number 1 on tripadvisor, I was very much looking forward to a few days at Riad Hayati. Unfortunately my expectations were not met.

From the moment I made the booking, I thought something odd as I was instructed to pay the full amount of my four night stay into a personal bank account here in the UK. Nevertheless, I paid it, although I would of thought that after an initial deposit, final payment could have been made by credit card at the Riad, but the Riad does not take credit cards, only cash.
(A word of advise here, on the day of your departure, remember to have cash for any incidentals. I had an early flight and did not cherish the thought of running to an ATM to withdraw cash to pay the balance of my bill first thing in the morning)

I arrived at Rid Hayati in June, shortly before they were to close for two months and maybe that is why standards like cleanliness, service and politeness were lacking. Perhaps the staff were anticipating their soon to be, long summer break with little regard for current guests.

My room was not as clean as I had hoped for, I also noticed a bloodstained pillowcase on my bed one night, granted it was an old stain, but still, it should have been discarded.
Service was another downfall and midway through my stay, I felt really bad asking for anything, for when I did, I was made to feel like I was intruding.

Breakfast was good, but a little boring and repetitive after the first couple of days; variety and/or choice would have been nice.

Good on them for their evening aperitif as it was a very nice touch after traipsing around the Medina in the summer heat, one lasting memory was drinking a bottle of wine on the terrace when the call to prayer was made. The riad is close to a mosque, and it was a shock to be woken at 4.30 am on the first day by the call to prayer, but after the first day I got used to it. Being in close proximity to the Mosque, if you are a light sleeper, being earplugs.

I would not recommend or stay here again, if I should ever return to Marrakech, and maybe my experience was so bad because of the anticipation of two months off, but still while accepting paying guests, standards and quality should have been maintained.

“an authentic sanctuary”

Riad Hayati

Jul 13, 2008

If I had to choose my favourite hotel in the world, it would be Riad Hayati in Marrakech. The rooms are calming, authentic and so beautiful. Sitting on the courtyard is like having your own outdoor sanctuary. The building fulfils every cliché you’ve ever heard about Morocco. There’s the stunning natural setting, and layers of architecture and landscaping that just keep adding to its beauty. The staff and the service are just delicious: they welcome and care of you from the first step in to when you leave with exquisite elegance.
Two nights here are better than a month anywhere else.

“we loved the romance of Riad Hayati!!!”

Riad Hayati

Jul 6, 2008

Romance is the word we would choose to describe the vibe of this fantastic riad... Well... Romance and Romantic!

My partner Betty and I have just returned from five fantastic days at this delightful riad. The Hayati's special ambience is just made for a romantic stay. The rooms were filled with flowers, fruit and were so clean.

The house is located in a very quiet cul-de-sac, and it is so close to the Bahia Palace. And really, literally, only a few minutes stroll to the interesting and enchanting souks, the palaces and several very chic restaurants.

The house's style is most peaceful and the decor is so tasteful. We say say it is the perfect respite and refuge after a day in the exotic madness of Marrakech.

And you mustn't forget Mina's home cooking - it has go to be the best in town! Mina's famous "poulet au citron" is a must. Also we have to mention Abdel, the house manager, who is a most charming young man who made our last minute arrangments and changes seem effortless - thank you!.

As for us, well - we'll be back!!!!!

“Peaceful Oasis”

Riad Hayati

Jun 23, 2008

My wife and I have just returned from a week at Riad Hayati. It is an utterly spoiling, utterly romantic hideaway. The essential sunshine break during a rainy London spring.

With Moorish arches and cool white decor it is just the right side of relaxed chic. This is everyone's idea of a fantasy home in an ancient medina .

Then there's the staff. We been around the world twice and have been fortunate to stay in some fine properties, but the ambience at Hayati is unique, heartwarming. Abdel's smile belies his "clef d'or" efficiency. Reservations are made, drivers appear and it just seems to happen effortlessly. Mina's home cooking is first class.

The hullabaloo of the medina is a few steps away but within the riad all is total tranquility: A charming courtyard garden with the gurgle of a fountain and birdsong. The roof terrace is a dream of
olive trees, palms and lush bougainvillea. Breakfast in the "Turkish Kiosk" offers dramatic views of the surrounding medina. What a way to start the day.

Come here to find peace!

“Spot On!”

Riad Hayati

Spot On!

Let me say that these rave reviews are absolutely spot on.

For starters, Riad Hayati is more private dwelling that boutique hotel. It has that certain understated elegance that makes it all seem effortless. Very simply, good taste seems to be their hallmark.

It sublimely peaceful with impeccable service and a personal attention to detail that is so charming. Wonderfully comfortable, rooms with fragrant bath amenities, robes, slippers, even cashmere pashminas for the ladies.

When we were exhausted by the frenetic pace of the city, we would order dinner in the riad and were treated to Mina's famous tajines and French desserts.

Try her wonderful "poulet aux olives" and "tarte aux citrons".

There is a terrace with stunning views of the surrounding medina and the Atlas Mountains. There is even a small plunge pool so welcome for those hot afternoons.

The riad is owned by a globe trotting journalist who obviously knows something about travel and hospitality.

Staying the week at Riad Hayati was an inspiring experience. We absolutely loved it.
