Booked this hotel via a weekend package thru travel agent in Spain. Was told it's in the centre of the old town (i'ts not) and was recently renovated (humm funny level of renovation in Tangiers).
The reception is not to the level of a 4star but a good 2star European standards. The concierge wears 'les cles d'or' badge, but doesn't offer the service one would usually expect from this type of experienced professional. Don't believe any of the signs informing you about the opening of the restaurant for breakast, lunch or dinner, they open when the staff wants to.
No security safe in the rooms, room cardkey holder informs you can leave your imortant items in room safe or at the reception safe. When you go to use the reception safe, all the safe keys have been lost or the door don't look.
We requested a quiet room, not looking over the seafront as main road runs along the front. Get a room on the side on the second floor, directly above the kitchen ventilation units, so noisy and the municipal rubbish collectors come to this side at 1am in the moring with sirens going !!! First time that I've checked out of a 4 star hotel and left after only 1 night. Would I return to same hotel.... definately not.
They are talking about Tangiers becoming the 2nd Marrakesh (I've been over 6 times to Marrakeshy) in a short space of time. I personally think this could be the case, with a lot of work and 30 years+.
If this is your first trip to Morocco, please don't go to Tangiers as you will get the wrong impression of what Morocco is all about. Wait and go for a long weekend to Marrakesh and enjoy!
