“Migration Camp - a wonderful place!”

Coming back from a hard day game viewing this place is absolutely stunning. The service is some of the best I have ever experienced and everything is included at a good price. (even your clothes washing is included and that is great to return home with a clean kit bag :-))

The rooms were stunning, individual luxury tents as per my photos, and coming back from the main lodge at night you have to be escorted by the guards as there are hippos and buffalos in the camp. And yes we did see them when we walked back each night!

We were in room 18 which did not have as good a view as rooms 16 or 20, but still fantastic.

The swimming pool is great too.

The location is quite a drive from central seregeti where there are lots of animals but therefore loads of other cars. We were game driving and hardly saw another car... but saw some amazing cheaters and elephants.

We booked with Frank from World Odyssey, [--] and also [--] Freddi was our guide for 4 days and outstanding... got a good speed on when required and took our time whenever we wanted.

A great trip and a great hotel.... if you can GO TO MIGRATION CAMP. we loved it.

If this is camping, then I'm a camper!

Migration Camp was the first accommodation on our Northern Circuit safari, and it was a perfect way to begin our safari.

Our tented room was exactly what I expected from viewing photos online. We really enjoyed the experience of a tented safari, but in total comfort.

The open air restaurant was lovely and the food was really good too -- even the vegetarian meals prepared for me. The staff and wait staff are shy and tentative, which makes them all the more endearing.

One morning, a giraffe was eating her treetop breakfast right next to us in the restaurant. At night, we could hear the snorts of the nearby hippos and in the day, we could watch the monkeys and baboons in the trees outside of our tent.

Our trip was at the end of October and this area of the Northern Serengeti was our favorite area for game driving and we saw lots of interesting animals and landscapes.

The pool was also a nice touch, especially at the end of a hot, dusty safari and the hyraxes hanging out around it were really fun to watch. The view is incredible and we met some really nice people at sundowners in the evening.

If we ever return to this area, I'd love to stay here again.

We booked this hotel as part of our safari organised by our travel agent Aim 4 Africa and Roy's Safari's in Arusha. From the hotels web site we were expecting something special but this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The accomodation is first class as is the food, going to sleep serenaded by hippo's is a new experience. We only had 2 nights here and wished we had booked more. The game drives in this area are less crowded than in the central Serengeti which is another bonus.

“Tented Luxury In Wonderful Situation”

Migration Camp inhabits the luxury end of the tented camp market in the Serengeti along with Kleins and the Grumeti River Camp. I cannot speak for the latter two but they would have to go some to beat Migration Camp. Our extended family group of seven spent two nights there (occupying three tents) and had expected something rather more spare. Instead we were amazed at how luxurious the accommodations were, all the more so given the fairly remote location of the camp. To take just one example, also commented on by someone below, each tent contains a large deep comfortable leather chair in mint condition, the sort of thing you expect to find in a fine European hotel, not deep in the East African bush. Drinks are included in the price, laundry is free. The South African managers are very companionable and the place is clearly expertly run. Great food, wonderful common areas. The view is to the west and the sunset. Etc, etc, etc. Significantly, it is in the north central part of the park away from the maddening hordes. We were there in early August and saw none of the heavy vehicle traffic encountered further south. What we did see was a significant stream of the wildebeest migration, one of whose routes ran just outside the camp. This was clearly the best area for game viewing in the Serengeti while we were there. Along with the Kikoti Camp in Tarangire National Park to the south, which although somewhat more rustic was more beloved for all that--see my review--this was our favorite stop on our trip. You will not find better.

“Fantastic Place!”

This place is awesome. Not sure how to describe it, you have to see it to believe it. Contemporary rustic maybe? Is there such a style? It has hardwood floors, high ceilings, and overstuffed leather chairs. You need to look at my pictures. Since it sits on the side of a hill everything opens up to nature. All the lodge areas have an open side facing the view. You feel like you are outside no matter where you go. When you stand on the top deck at the lodge you can see the Hippos lying by the river. Probably 50 of them. They come up by the tents to feed at night and can be noisy. The food was the best we had on the trip. Four Course meals and we always had 2 choices for the entrée ad desert, but only one for soup, salad. I know you are now feeling sorry for me. The one morning we wanted to sleep in and have breakfast in the tent, they didn’t hesitate at all. One thing I didn’t know or probably did know and forgot was that everything is included, laundry, alcohol drinks, sodas, water. everything. I would have saved my laundry if I had remembered.

The tent had 3 twin beds with great bedding. A desk and an overstuffed leather chair. It also had a wrap around deck which was great. At the lodge they had a top deck with a fire every night before dinner. They also had a small swimming pool that only one family of kids used when we were there. Full electricity and hot showers. This place was elegant but laid back at the same time. We felt very comfortable here and wish we would have stayed for an extra night. Best place we stayed at.

When we were signing in, I mentioned to the camp manager that I hoped to get a view because at Kirawira all we saw were trees in front of the tent. He asked the check in person what room we had then he didn’t say anything. When we got to the tent it the last tent (19), I see why he didn’t say anything. It was surrounded by large bushes so there wasn’t any view at all and it was next to the employee village which translated into very noisy late into the night (they had TV). If you go, put a request in for tent number 16, you won’t be sorry.

Wish we would hae stayed 1 more night.
