“Avoid, Shabby, Stained, Yuck!”

Should be revoked one of the Leading Hotels of the World; maybe in 1970 when the last time they have refurbished it! Even the $30 for the English Tea service would have bene a rip-off IF the food was decent; instead if came wrapped in saran wrap and was a hard as the rocks along the Gorge. Every time I asked a question of one staff member - would get differnt answers from other staff members. Bed linens stained. Dont even want to be in the room, much less touch it. When I wask a hotel staff member to kill a huge wasp on my ceiling; he proceeded to get a towel from the bathroom, swat it onto the bedroom pillow and started to leave, as if leaving a dead insect on the pillow was acceptable! I can go on but having stayed there is already enough a waste of time on this property.

“Magnificent colonial sight”

Victoria Falls Hotel

Reviewer: Dr.Ernest Chetty - South Africa

I have stayed at the Vic falls hotel during the last week of April 2008.I am generally a very difficult to please traveller. My stay at the Vic falls hotel was an incredible experience. The hotel has an excellent ambience of it's own which is really hard to describe. The staff are willing to go the extra mile .The gardens and the general condition of the building is immaculate. The croaking sounds of the frogs at night gives you a feeling of being outdoors whilst you are still indoors. The breakfasts are more than adequate if carefully spaced you can quite easily miss lunch without having to go hungry till dinner.I would strongly recommend this hotel to the most discerning traveller. If ever I visit Vic falls again the Vic falls hotel would be my hotel of choice.

“Lovely, if expensive hotel but beware of touts on the path to the Falls”

Victoria Falls Hotel

I was in Vic Falls with a female friend from 9 April to 12 April and stayed at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Although we felt totally safe in the hotel, we hired the 'security guard' who was waiting by the entrance to the hotel's private path to the Falls. We were hassled by people trying to sell stuff both on the way to and on the way back from the Falls which was very annoying and quite scary, and this guy turned out to be pretty useless and didn't get rid of them. It is probably better to ask the hotel to book a guard for you, although if you have a man with you you might not get as much hassle as we two women did.
The hotel was beautifully kept and the staff were great, but value for money for the food was not great - You were paying the sort of prices you would pay in Europe or the US, but the quality was average. Also, some items were 'off' ie. not available, although given the state of the country that is not surprising

“Awesome Victoria Falls”

Victoria Falls Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Gainesville, Fl

We were at the Victoria Falls Hotel at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe March 14th and 15th, 2008. The Hotel was wonderful. We did the river ride and the helicopter flight. The hotel provided us with the contacts for these activities. The Falls are awesome. A lot of people tried to talk us out of staying at the Victoria Falls Hotel but we found it safe, convenient and helpful. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the old world charm of the hotel great. Tourist guides were provided for all guests who wanted to walk to the Falls or to the bridge over the gorge. I had lived in Kenya in the 60’s and had always wanted to see the Falls and stay at the hotel. It is a beautiful place to visit. This trip was a dream of a lifetime and it did not disappoint me.

“Great setting, lovely establishment but take care of personal items!”

Victoria Falls Hotel

Mar 29, 2008

This hotel is beautifully kept and has lovely views. The food is great and the staff professional albeit slightly unorganised. I recently stayed for 2 nights and had organised my wedding from abroad in advance. Regardless of paying in US dollars over a month earlier for our package when we asked for things that were included eg belgium chocolates & roses I was told they "had run out"! Also before properly checking out the room service/cleaners attended at our room, opened the small room safe in the cupboard which I had left my wallet in and locked with a personal code (only containing Australian money) and so it was found by staff. My wallet was bought down to me in the foyer however my money was missing! Look after your personal possessions at all times.
Also make sure you walk to the falls from the hotel with a security guard (they are normally posted at either end of the walking path most of the day) as you will get hassled by people in the bushes selling wooden items etc.
