We stayed at Masuwe Lodge because we were under the impression that we had to, in order to do the Lion Encounter. As it transpired, that was simply the way the wholesaler created the brochure.
This was one of seven lodges we stayed in, and it is fairly basic. With the currency shortage in Zimbabwe, there is no wine of any significance available, other than local wine, as also beer. The food was reasonable, and the rooms comfortable. Elephant move through the property each day, and you are likely to see these at some stage.
We were unfortunately the only guests, and thus there was absolutely zero ambiance at dinner time, and in fact we felt rather over attended, and took our dessert in the room.
The room is tented, with a thatch roof, and a brick bathroom. The bathroom facilities are very basic.
The Lion Encounter was however absolutely incredible, the highlight of our four week trip which included over 3 weeks in game parks. We also did the Elephant Safari, and while interesting, it was really a stroll through the bush, ducking thorn branches, and waiting for Miss Elle to finish chomping on yet another bush.
We found Victoria Falls quite safe, for those that might be wondering. It is certainly suffering from a shortage of tourists.
