We spent a long weekend in Bangkok over May 1st, 08 at the Lebua. This hotel is 'class' from every aspect...lovely reception area, staff was outstanding. We were accompanied to our deluxe room on the 56th floor by one of the receptionists who advised us of all the room and hotel had to offer. NOTE: sign the waiver to have your balcony doors unlocked as the view of Bangkok is amazing, less than one block from the river. Our room had a living room, small kitchen area with sink, microwave, minibar & refrigerator, large bathroom and bedroom with king size bed - wonderfully comfortable and luxurious. The attention to detail and amenities were outstanding. We had dinner at two of the hotel's restuarants - Breeze on the al fresco 52nd floor and Sirocco on the al fresco 63rd floor. The food and service at both restaurants was impeccable, only bettered by the fabulous view over the city of Bangkok. There are minimal dress codes in the Sirocco, Mezzaluna and Breeze restaurants - casual-business I would call it (no flip flops, athletic clothing, etc). Breakfast buffet was large and very good with a varied menu of cuisines. We had the lunch buffet one day in Cafe Mezo which was extraordinary in both taste and variety. The Lebua is truly a five star, luxury hotel.

We booked a riverview suite through expedia for 4 nights (paid for 3 and got 1 night free). We were lucky to get one of the larger riverview suites (5915) as there were no others available when we arrived at 20.30Hrs.

The hotel itself is located on Silom Rd in the business district, 5mins walk from the Sky train and is the 2nd highest building in Bangkok. It overlooks other luxury hotels such as the Oriental & the Peninsular. Although we did not go into any of these we felt that we were in the best hotel in town!

On entering the room we were absolutely stunned to see what was clearly more like a penthouse apartment than a room, with views over the whole city. This suite included a kitchen, dining area, stylish living room, 2 large bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, a washing machine and tumble dryer! We had 4 balconies to gawp from having signed an insurance waiver to have access to them.

We went to the Sirocco restaurant on our last night which we felt was too expensive for what was delivered. It is situated on the 64th floor along with the ultra glamourous 'Sky Bar'- the views are spectacluar. We'd recommend going for a cocktail but not for a meal.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We can't recommend this hotel enough and would definately stay there again.

Upon arrival at Lebua, we were asked to have a seat on a velvet couch while someone checked in for us. With the aromatherapy scented air, the amazing service and the box of chocolates in the room, I have no idea how anyone could not be blown away by the experience offered by this hotel.

We stayed in a Riverview Suite for $195US as purchased on the hotel's website. I definitely recommend this GIANT 1 bedroom suite (plus giant living room, kitchen and large marble bathroom) as the view is the highest and most amazing in the city. The balcony was a beautiful experience.

We did not try the restaurant onsite, however, one of the other hotel guests mentioned in the elevator that it was overpriced and not that good. Plenty of great food on the street in Bangkok anyways.

The hotel has a standing-room-only bar high above the city outdoors with glass walls. Very cool.

Staff were REALLY nice, pool was beautiful and the stay was the most amazing I have experienced.

Stayed at the Lebua for three nights April 1, 2 and 3 and another three nights April 13, 14, 15 (Was in Pattaya in between). Used Luxury Link (the auction site) to make the first reservation, which included 3 nights in a spectacular River View Suite, one-way transportation via a BMW from the airport to the hotel (I arrived about 3 am), a $200 credit at their high end restaurant, Sirocco (which I didn't use), a great breakfast for 2 (I was alone), taxes and service charges, all for a total of $739 plus the $30 Luxzury Link fee. The last three nights cost $139/night (season was pretty well winding town so prices were dropping) . This included breakfast, but not the 20% or so in various taxes and service charges. Ouch. Also didn't include the airport transfer, the River View Suite (but the suite I had was sweet!). I consider both deals reasonable; beyond reasonable for what one gets!)
The lobby of the hotel is pretty non-descript (for a GREAT lobby, try the Shangri La) so I was concerned about how the rooms would stack up. Not to worry -- they are sensational. Each of them has a large parlor, a large bedroom and a large bathroom, with all the furniture and accessories first class. I've stayed at The Peninsula, the Shangri La and the Oriental on other trip to Thailand, and their rooms literally can not compare. The reason why, I discovered, was that the hotel was not meant to be a hotel. It was a condo development that came on hard times in the Asian crisis of 1997-98. The owners couldn't sell the units as condos, so they made the conversion to hotel for many of the units (maybe most). Which is why the units are so large. My brother, his wife and 14-year-old son stayed at the Shangri La (which is only a 5 minute walk away) and he paid $250 PLUS $45 a night for the roll away for his son in a standard size room,. A real rip off. Needless to say, they stayed at the Lebua their last three nights. The staff is helpful and gracious. The hotel has a nice pool, with a downside of very limited seating, and a nice gym. The Skybar is probably THE most spectacular outdoor, high-up restaurant/bar venue I have ever been to. I'm terrified of heights, so I was a little shaky waaaay up there, but the ambiance and the view are unequaled any place in the world. There's no question I will stay at the Lebua the next time I am in Bangkok.
