Yes, the hotel is in the middle of chinatown and this is bangkok chinatown so expect double the noise, colour, flavour of anywhere else in bangkok. If you don't like people wherever you go, bustling activity at all times and strange sights and smells - then do yourself a favour and don't go to chinatown - infact don't go to bangkok. Stay in a farm. Milk a cow.
If you want the craziness that is bangkok to hit you in the face as soon as you step outside your hotel with dated but spacious rooms, generously extensive and ever changing buffet breakfast, friendly and polite staff, then this is it.
Walk through the never ending markets with wholesale prices cheaper than chutuchuk, makeshift stalls selling trinkets and porn, see what the locals are buying, pull up a chair alongside a street stall and dare to sample the weird and wonderful concoctions, see what the locals are eating, take pics of the amazingly dilapidated architecture and buildings, take a walk to the river pier and take a boat to the city centre etc.
After a long day outside, you can have a relaxing swim on the rooftop pool, although small does the job in getting you wind down for the day. There's even an indoor jacuzzi on another level again although small does the job.
We booked the hotel with our eyes wide open that we want to see the real Bangkok but with a comfortable room to retreat to at night and we got exactly that and we loved it!
