Yes, the hotel is in the middle of chinatown and this is bangkok chinatown so expect double the noise, colour, flavour of anywhere else in bangkok. If you don't like people wherever you go, bustling activity at all times and strange sights and smells - then do yourself a favour and don't go to chinatown - infact don't go to bangkok. Stay in a farm. Milk a cow.

If you want the craziness that is bangkok to hit you in the face as soon as you step outside your hotel with dated but spacious rooms, generously extensive and ever changing buffet breakfast, friendly and polite staff, then this is it.

Walk through the never ending markets with wholesale prices cheaper than chutuchuk, makeshift stalls selling trinkets and porn, see what the locals are buying, pull up a chair alongside a street stall and dare to sample the weird and wonderful concoctions, see what the locals are eating, take pics of the amazingly dilapidated architecture and buildings, take a walk to the river pier and take a boat to the city centre etc.

After a long day outside, you can have a relaxing swim on the rooftop pool, although small does the job in getting you wind down for the day. There's even an indoor jacuzzi on another level again although small does the job.

We booked the hotel with our eyes wide open that we want to see the real Bangkok but with a comfortable room to retreat to at night and we got exactly that and we loved it!

“Items Went Missing, Not Recommended”

Grand China Princess

Recently had a night at the Grand China Princess which ended in a bad experience when perfumes and cosmetics that were left in the bathroom disappeared. The management spoke with the housekeeping staff and failed to recover the items. There appears to be insufficient security for guests and a poor work ethic of the staff employed at the hotel.
The rooms are tired and bathrooms in a poor condition. The best feature is the view from the rooms.
The location is not very good and I would recommend that you look for a hotel closer to the sky train.
I cannot recommend this hotel because of the loss of personal items and would definitely not return to this hotel.

“Ok hotel, awful location”

The hotel is quite nice a little outdated but for the price it is value for money.
This is my 3rd trip to Bangkok and we thought staying somewhere different could be ok.
Never ever again......
Chinatown is the most disgusting smelly, filty brothel i have ever been to.
Poverty in a foreign country is one thing to experience , this district is just filth.
We normally stay at the Pathuwam district and back to the Pathuwum Princess we will go.
Pay the extra and stay elsewhere, the Siam on Siam is really nice a very different hotel very art deco.
Also the food at the GCP was awful, we had room service one night and out of 5 dishes only 1 was even palletable, I have to say that I am a fussy eater however my partner is very easily pleased with food and even he thought it was awful and quickly put the tray out in the corridoor cos the smell of the food made us sick.

“Good quality hotel”

Grand China Princess

I stayed at the China Princess for a couple of nights prior to starting a treking holiday in Thialand. The hotel is situated slap bang in the middle of Chinatown which can be very hectic and noisy, but I actually found this amazing. The staff in the hotel very very friendly and let me book into my room at 7am at no extra charge.
