We just got back from staying 4 nights here. Not having been to Bangkok before, we were advised to stay near a Skytrain station for ease of getting around the city, and so picked the Grand Hyatt. Well, we were very impressed, with both the hotel, it's staff and the location. The hotel is quite grand in the inimitable Hyatt fashion and the lobby in particular is reminiscent of colonial times with the extraordinarily high ceilings and vast columns etc. The rooms are more than adequate in size. The staff demonstrated all the famous Thai hospitality, and nothing seemed to much trouble. One minor irritation is that you have to pay to use the internet in the business centre - we did expect that at $195 USD per night, internet would be free, but as mentioned, this is a minor frustration. The location is really superb - it's only about a minute walk to the Skytrain station. It's on a major intersection so it's easy to hail taxis or tuk tuks. On that note, we were thankful that the hotel is located adjacent to the Erawan shrine - this meant a very easy landmark for local tuk tuk drivers when we were unable to communicate where the Hyatt is. All in all, a great place to stay with a fabulous location.
