We were promptly picked up at the new Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok by a hotel driver. The ride was smooth and we had no problems.
We had booked a Premier Sensation package, but were upgraded to a Solitaire Suite on arrival.
The hotel itself is tucked away into a quiet side of Sukhumvit, so it wasn't as noisy as some other hotels we've stayed at in Bangkok.
The rooms are very spacious and the large windows have great views of the city. The shower has excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. We never did use the jacuzzi.
Rooms and linens are all very clean. However, many of the electrical fittings in the room were a bit loose or looked about to fall off. I only know this because most of the lamps in the room were unplugged when we arrived, so we had to go around plugging them in and switching them on. A bit odd, but not a big deal.
The lights and airconditioning were controlled by this rather inconvenient master control console by the bedside. I've seen this type of set up before in older Asian properties, and I've always found it kind of inconvenient. I reckon children would be delighted to play with this though.
The kitchen has a microwave, cutlery, china, fridge, and almost everything you'd need, although we didn't use it for anything more complicated than making tea or coffee.
As for the breakfast, there were not many vegetarian options although there was a lot of fruit. Most Bangkok breakfast buffets have regular Western, Thai, and Japanese dishes, but at this hotel there were no Japanese options. I know this is not important for everyone, but thought I'd just mention this.
We didn't use the pool but passed by it in the morning. It looked really great. The gym had enough equipment and looked adequate.
We ordered room service on our first night because we were so exhausted from our flight. The food was really good and arrived in good time.
Oh, the wireless in the room was a bit weak, for those of you who need to do some work in their room. Once we connected by cable, it was much better.
All in all, it's a good hotel for the price, but please don't expect any of the five star details. If you take it for what it is, it isn't bad at all.
One curious note. After we checked out, one of the staff at reception came to us and told us in an alarming manner that housekeeping had informed him that a laundry bag was misssing from our room. We always use hotel laundry bags to put our dirty clothes in. We've done this at the Royal Orchid Sheraton on the river, and it's never been a problem. Anyway, this employee then proceeded to watch us tip all our dirty laundry out of the said bag that we had so brazenly stolen into a plastic laundry bag that we had from the Triple Two Silom (another Bangkok hotel). We were slightly bemused that we were taken to task over what was a cheap and obviously disposable bag!
We were supposed to be staying again at this hotel in a couple of weeks time, but I think we'll be looking for somewhere else. There's just too many good properties in Bangkok to try.
