“Diamond in the rough...”

New World Lodge Hotel

May 16, 2008

When we first weaved through the back streets, heading towards our hotel we were a little daunted! The moment we walked through the doors our opinion changed immediatly. Clean and friendly staff and well air conditioned against the thai humidity.

We had a double room with our own bathroom, balacony, air conditioning and satelite TV.

The hotel restaurant (Sara) serves delicious food too... yummy. The staff in here are also very sweet and friendly.

Located not far from Koh San Road and within walking distance of bars and restaurants (Can recommed the vegiterian restaurant near by on the main road, next to the bridge)

A good hotel in a pretty good location. Resonably priced too.

“Average tourist hotel”

New World Lodge Hotel

Apr 27, 2008

Within walking distance of Khao San Rd & royal district but far enough away to be fairly quiet.
Busy hotel with lots of tour groups.
We thought it was expensive for what it was - but I guess cities are like that.
Room fairly large with good air-con (essential - to block out traffic noise & cope with heat).
Good restaurant at hotel (try the Tom Yum) & decent enough buffet breakfast.

“Decent Hotel”

New World Lodge Hotel

Mar 22, 2008

We enjoyed our two stays at this hotel. No bugs, good location, large room, very good breakfast in a nice setting, friendly staff. Tour desk people were excellent and got us Visa's for Vietnam. We had to leave our passports with them and they met us at the Bangkok airport with the passports when we passed through to get a connecting flight. Totally honest. Can store luggage. Imperial Palace/emerald budda well worth it. Beware tuk tuk drivers and anyone on the street who looks well dressed and suggests taking one!

“Insects everywhere !!”

New World Lodge Hotel

Mar 14, 2008

We arrived in the afternoon and first noticed a couple of black bugs crawling around the room and blood marks on the wall from previous inhabitants (we thought mosquitoes). Willing to give the place a chance we closed the windows, put on the aircon and left for the evening to explore the sights of Bangkok.

Upon our return, we discovered tens of bugs crawling all around the bed, nearby walls and curtains. We called housekeeping who simply proceeded to squash them on the bed whilst tentatively checking her own legs - when questioned they just shrugged their shoulders... We were offered another room on the same floor but did not seem interested.

We decided to cut our losses and headed off to town to find somewhere much nicer and 100% clean !

Although the price on the net was attractive and the location seemed good, this hotel is in a dirtier and older part of town and next to the river. Having stayed in all types of accomodation around the world this ranks as the dirtiest place we have experienced (including sth america, jungle, etc...).

Don't bother !!

“A standard tourist hotel”

New World Lodge Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Seattle
Feb 18, 2008

This place is neither good or bad. It's okay. Reasonably comfortable and clean - nothing out of the ordinary for a tourist hotel. The location is good. It's a 5-10 minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of Khao San Road, so no college-aged drunks crashing through your hallway in the middle of the night. Well, at least not during our stay...

The food and internet is expensive. So are the rates quoted at the hotel travel agency. It's better to leave the hotel and do your non-sleeping business elsewhere.

We stayed here because it was a meeting point for an organized tour through an independent travel company. Had we the option, we would've chosen something more affordable and intimate, but nonetheless it was a standard comfortable stay.
