We stayed at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok for 4 nights at the end of April this year, and I can’t speak highly enough about our stay there! Having visited Bangkok on a number of occasions, we decided to opt for a hotel on the river this time. Having searched the various options, the Hilton had a good location and a good rate so we decided to give it a shot. We also decided to push the boat out a little and go for the Executive Package which included breakfast, all day snacks and evening cocktails between 6 and 8.30 (smart advice #1).
We arrived around 7.30pm after a long flight from London via Dubai, were immediately escorted to the Executive Lounge on the 31st floor and given cold drinks (icy Singha beer and a cocktail), just the thing after a long journey! We were immediately impressed with the lounge, one of the nicest I’ve experienced and with breathtaking views over Bangkok that we never tired of throughout our stay.
Already feeling at home after our refreshments, we were shown to our room. As explained, we’d opted for the Executive floors so the room was excellent but as some other reviews have mentioned, maybe a little small. So, on a holiday-start high and buoyed with icy Thai Larger, we decided to go the extra mile and for a little more money we upgraded to a suite (smart advice #2).
I’m lucky to travel a lot with my work and have stayed in all different levels of hotels all across the world, but I have to say that the suite in the Millennium Hilton took my breath away. It features a vast lounge that curves round half the front of the hotel giving the most amazing views of the Chao Prayha River and right across Bangkok. The whole suite feels huge with a large lounge and office area, a good size bedroom (both with those panoramic views) and large bathroom and dressing area. The finish on everything was of the highest standard, ultra modern but with a Thai influence. Flat screen TV’s in both rooms and a hi-fi in the lounge, great for Bangkok’s cheap CD’s!
Now, on to the location. A read one review that mentioned the Millennium Hilton was on the ‘wrong side of the river’. Technically yes, as the bulk of the city is on the other side, but from the hotel, you get those magnificent views and there is a private boat that takes you across every 20 minutes (to River City or Taksin Station). And if you’re too impatient for that (me!) there are 2 commuter barges that constantly criss-cross the Chao Prayha so you can be over the other side in 5 minutes for a whole 3 Baht!
So after site seeing and shopping in Bangkok, or just chilling at the amazing pool on the 4th floor, we could relax in our suite before heading to the Executive Lounge for cocktails. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and the food and drink selection for evening cocktails was fantastic! Beware the ‘Long Chao Prayha Iced Tea’, a local spin on the potent favourite! Some quality cocktail time in the Lounge made a perfect springboard for an evening out, or not out, depending on how many Iced Teas had been consumed…..
This was a really excellent stay at a hotel that without doubt, I would use again and happily recommend to anybody. Always ask for a high floor (for those amazing views) and if you can run too it, go for the Executive Package (breakfast and cocktails included, it pays for its self) and finally, if you’re going to go the whole hog, take the Suite, you won’t regret a Baht of it!
Thanks to all at the Millennium for a fantastic stay!
