“Excellent hotel to experience the real Bangkok”

I found this small boutique hotel by accident about a year ago and have stayed there now on two occasions. It is located in my favorite area of Bangkok for walking, near some of the oldest and most interesting parts of the city. It's also within walking distance (or short taxi ride) to some of Bangkok's best small local restaurants.

Rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable - although I prefer the larger top floor river-facing rooms. Being a newly renovated building, everything is in excellent condition, particularly the brand new bathrooms.

It's a very small hotel, which is a plus: the staff are very kind and helpful, and make you feel like their personal guest. I didn't have any unusual requests, but I suspect that they would probably go out of their way to assist guests if possible.

Breakfast is sort of unexciting - but there is plenty of food: eggs, meat, toast, cereal, and fruit. And it's served in a pretty riverfront garden.

My only (very minor) issue is that the "partial river view" room really didn't have a view of the river unless you stood right at the window and turned your head to the right. From most of the room, the view was of the building across the street.

“Gorgeous, great location”

Aurum The River Place

A wonderful, small and friendly place. Immaculately clean. Great location for the old city - Grand Palace and Wat Po. I was doing a massage course at Wat Po - it took me 90 seconds to get there from the hotel! Very quiet at night - which I loved - but don't go there if you want night life!

“Good location for visiting Grand Palace”

Aurum The River Place

I stayed at this hotel for two nights and the staff were very helpful and charming. I would recommend visiting The Deck restaurant which is nearby and has a fabulous view across the river to Wat Arun which looks good at night even in the rain! It is also close to the Grand Palace and easy to walk to. Ignore the touts outside the Grand Palace who will try and tell you it's closed and drag you off an 'excursion'.

“Fabulous!!!”

Aurum The River Place

Apr 15, 2008

I loved this hotel. I stayed in the third floor front room and the views are sensational! I watched the boats do their busy thing and laid back on the most comfortable bed on planet earth. I loved the TV with the movies (but think they should change the movies more often). I loved clean bathroom. I took a tubby and the shower was a nice pressure. I loved the simple decor and the neutral colors... so serene. I ended up buying the robe and wish I had bought the comforter. I would absolutely stay again!

“Very Europeish in Bangkok”

We had a pleasant stay at the Aurum, staff very kind, professional and helpful, hotel room very clean and sheets so soft - we slept like logs. Breakfast served at an outdoor space with some river view if placed correctly. Style very european both building and indoor interior, which doesn't give you a very Bangkok vibe, but we liked the location. Close to Wat Pho,Grand Palace, Tha Thien spice market and close by to the Tha Thien express boat station, which is a excellent way of transport north and south or for a private long-boat tail tour. Area quiet at night, but there is a 7-eleven around the corner open 24/7 and a great (well at least location-wise) restaurant called The Deck (at the Arun Residence) a few blocks away and at the same place a super bar called Amorosa where we took our night cap looking over Wat Arun.
