“Great views but....”

The Royal Phuket Yacht Club

Sep 24, 2008

the location of the hotel is fantastice with view of probably the best beach in Phuket. However the hotel which was so grand in its hay day is now very tired. There are 9 levels built up the hillside but the lift only goes to the 6th floor...Stairs and more stairs. great outside balconies and spectacular views but rooms tired and bathrooms do not have baths.

Staff appeared to be glum which was so differenet to our other experieneces and on day 2 of our stay had a strike! Conclusion: great views but hotel not so great and stairs will keep you fit!

“great hotel”

The Royal Phuket Yacht Club

Sep 21, 2008

just back from 12 nights in phuket yacht club.... it is a beautifully located hotel, right on the nai harn beach. it was very quiet when we were there but thats what we wanted. we were looked after excellently by hotel staff, pretty much faultless and the room and huge balcony was fantastic and kept very clean. food in the hotel was excellent, it would compare to european prices but quality was far superior. alcohol is pricey (wine especially) but it all adds to the 4-5 star experience. if you want to eat cheaper there are a few restaurants nearby around nai harn and any one we tried were perfectly fine and one third the cost so you can mix 5 star one night and local thai the next to reduce costs. alot of complaints about the hotel being isolated but we preferred that to the hustle and hassle of patong or kata. we went to patong a few times which was fun for a bit of shopping but would have hated to stay there and loved coming back to beautiful nai harn beach. taxis were slightly pricey but this was a small cost to pay for the best surroundings and beach on phuket, and it is a 30 to 40 minute ride to patong so again it compares to european prices. only criticism of hotel was they were going to charge us 2200 baht to drive us to airport when we were leaving so we got a taxi from outside to do the trip for 1000 baht. the thai people were lovely and price is always negotiable. all in all phuket yacht club and nai harn beach was wonderful and very relaxing, an ideal holiday. this was low season and apparently the area is much busier in high season. have fun!

“Great place”

The Royal Phuket Yacht Club

My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel in the last week of July. We had reasonably high expectations going in, and all of these were met if not exceeded during our stay. The rooms were great (very large, clean, and nice touches such as DVD player, large bathrooms etc.). The pool was exceptional, service great, and the food was delicious. Sure, you pay more than you would on the streets, but the quality of the food more than makes up for the extra price (which is still reasonable in the scheme of things). The only downside to the hotel is that it is quite remote (20-25 minutes to Kata/Phuket town) and this time of year the beach isn't exactly condusive to swimming. But overall I'd recommend this place highly as a beautiful hotel with great service and a great place to stay.

“Great hotel with magnificent views.”

The Royal Phuket Yacht Club

We spent 10 days of bliss at this hotel and found the Tripadvisor reviews really helpful - so here's ours:

Nai Harn is less built-up than other locations, so it is totally relaxing. Anytime you want more action, Kata is just a 15 min taxi ride away.

This is a grand hotel that lived up to the website photos (the best ones were on Expedia). All of the rooms cascade down the mountainside, with each terrace stepped back the higher up you go.

Rooms: We were in an Ocean Junior Suite near the top (700's) and had a fantastic view of the bay and beach. The room is spacious with four areas - bathroom, big bedroom, lounge and TV, private terrace. Good air-con which made it a haven to return to from the heat.

The rooms are not standard 'modern but bland' hotel room. They are a mixture of modern and Thai Traditional (timber and tiles). This gives a feel of 'old world' elegance. For example, there are large regal timber sliding doors which seal off the bedroom from the TV room and make it dark so the sunrise won't wake you. When they're open, you can see the view from the bed.

Little things that may matter to others:
The bathroom doesn't have a normal bath, instead the shower recess is a big step-down tiled area that doubles as a bath - unusual but I suppose it works.

Instead of having an in-house Movie service, they had a selection of DVDs that were available (at no charge!) for use in the room's DVD player. But they are not recent releases like usual movie services, just a mix of older and newer.

I couldn't play my iPod through the audio system, and although the DVD player had mp3 playback, I couldn't get quality sound out of it. But they did have some CDs in the room (only one was to our tastes).

The lift is old, but we think that a replacement is planned.

Overall Service:
The terrace lounge (cocktails etc) and breakfast restaurant enjoy the same magnificent view. Nice pool area. Good little gym. Lovely Health Spa. And the buffet breakfast was great. All the service was professional, attentative and friendly (hi Omar) and you will feel like James Bond staying here (hello Dallas). We would definitely stay again. In fact, we met a few people who frequently returned because it had everything they needed.

“Good, but far from Great”

Just got back from Phuket...July 24-28th. Straight to the point.. this hotel is for those who prefer ISOLATION...Nai Harn beach is quiet...taxi fare to other areas will cost you at least 900 baht roundtrip. The hotel is hidden in the hills on the northend of Nai Harn..pulling in, i could still see the old markings of Le Meriden....check in was pleasant and fast....i stayed in the most basic room which was spacious and had its own very large terrance...bathroom was large with very good bathroom amenities...rooms was very satisfactory. Hotel seemed very empty....this was expected not to see quest, but i hardly saw staff....breakfast is not buffet....only salad and fruit are on a "buffet" setting...everything else is made to order...which is good..but i felt it was on the 'cheaper' side of the new management...hotel was short staffed...had to wait for service...not really something that should happen for a supposedly 5 star hotel. But the breakfast food was good. Didn't eat at the hotel restaurants cause wanted to try other restaurants in phuket....plus....looking at the prices...food is way way over priced....staff not friendly (except for reception)...no smiles, seemed like they were not happy to be there...which sort of ruined the moment. Gym was good. pool way to small for hotel of supposed 5 star caliber....check out was swift....rent a car...you will save a lot on taxi...i would probably not stay here again due to the isolation....i came for the surf, but the waves much better at Kata...the beach is not THAT nice...just as dirty as Kata.
