We found this hotel through one of the many Phuket web sites through Google, and thought we would check it out both on Tripadvisor and the hotels direct web site.
Firstly, let it be known that this hotel blew our expectations away, both in value and beauty. If you have been to Phuket, you will know that many hotels have Tuk Tuks waiting on the doorstep to hassle you. Not the case here, as the hotel has a private courtyard. Very quiet location compared to Patong, and Kata is the preferred beach for peaceful breaks and amazing sunsets.
We stayed 7 nights from November 8th to the 15th. We requested two low lvl rooms about 2 months before arrival, smoking, handicap access, an all was delivered when we checked in. Check in greeted us by name with refreshments and towels, even though we arrived at the hotel at 11:00pm. Usual hotel routine, bell hop took our bags to the rooms plus they gave us a tour of the room to assure that we knew where everything was/ how to work the safe etc.
After settling in a bit we needed some food so we asked the hotel for local restaurants and they said they would cook us up something in their Pond Restaurant which was closed. (excellent food/ service both dinner and breakfast)
I know what the previous reviewer was talking about when it came to noise, but to be honest you can't hold other people's negligence against the staff. We had some noisy kids above us too who kept running around. Other than that nothing unusual. The bed in the room was comfortable for us both, but I guess it depends on what you are used too though.
There is a shuttle bus (or 15 minute walk) that takes you to the Northern part of Kata beach, where Alpina has their own lounge chairs etc. This is a good section of beach, away from all the major hotels and a little less quiet from the Southern part of Kata Beach. If you do not take advantage of Alpina's section of beach you will be charged anywhere from 150 - 200 Bhat by one of the locals, who sweep off your chairs and get you drinks/ cigarettes etc.
Overall the hotel was amazing, staff very efficient and friendly, so we're definitely going back there again. The only let down was other guests in the hotel were very rude and ignorant towards other guests, staff, and Thai culture/ lifestyle. I don't care who you are, you can't leave your towel on a chair at the pool in the morning, and then come back in the afternoon to claim that chair as your own. It doesn't work like that.
Some pointers before booking…make sure you request certain rooms upon booking, as not all rooms are pool access. Also, take advantage of the free buffet. It saves you having to get lunch, and food is great quality. There is a local laundry service across the road from the hotel that does Laundry for 40 Bhat per Kilo (about UK £0.45p). Take advantage of it, it’s quick, efficient, and less than 24hr turnaround.
We were sad to leave, but enjoy it before everyone else's catches on and prices increase.
