Let me start by saying this: by western standards, 65 bucks a night really isn't bad... I've stayed in much worse back in the UK and it has cost me more. But in Saigon? I expect a lot more bang for my buck.
I booked this place from the UK before I realized how cheap accomodation was in Ho Chi Minh city, and after 4 days there, when I told my fellow travellers what I was paying they nearly laughed me out of the country.
It's very clean and well maintained, although the rooms, especially the bathrooms could do with a little updating. Not exactly dirty, but a little tired. The staff were courteous and helpful and I made a penfriend of a very helpful Vietnamese waiter.
The restaraunt is ok, the food at night is good but the breakfasts could do with a lot more variety. The view from the rooftop restaraunt is stunning allowing you to take in a beautiful panarama of the city below and the park.
The rooms have AC, TV and a safe and mine was very spacious and comfortable. All in all, it was like a travelodge experience but with better staff; safe, comfie, no frills.
So whats the problem? Well none really, only that you can get the same standard of service, cleanliness and comfort for 10 dollars if you look around a bit. And you don't have to look that hard, mini hotels are 10 a penny in the Pham Ngu Lao area, and the Liberty 4 just doesn't justify the 65 dollar price tag. Not great value.
