This was the hotel that was booked on my 2 days/1 night side trip to Ephesus and Pamukkale. Thank God it was only for one night, and thank God I was too exhausted to think about the condition of the room. It smelled like stale cigarette smoke. Thank God there was a window that opened and a small balcony. I kept them open through the night to bring in fresh air despite the noise from dinner outside. The bed was fine - seemed clean enough and was comfortable. The carpet was absolutely disgusting. It needed to be changed 10 years ago. There were large stains. Honestly, I would have preferred the concrete subfloor than that carpet. When walking around, I never took off my shoes. The bathroom was tired and the tile needed to be changed. Breakfast was fine - a buffet. The staff was nice enough. The whole place needs to be completely renovated. It was, in a word, gross.

How they rated this hotel 4 stars is beyond my comprehension. I think it is used for large tour groups as there was a huge crowd at dinner and I thankfully missed the early breakfast rush. Avoid this place if you can. I booked this tour a day before I left. I wasn't able to research. Serioiusly, skip it. Ask to stay in Kusadasi, a nice resort town not too far from Ephesus.

“Good Hotel for a nice price!”

Hitit Hotel

Aug 22, 2007

We arrived at Hitit Hotel on Mon 20 Aug at 9am, having taken a bus from Izmir Bus Garage (by the way, there's an excellent bus service in Turkey, cheap too). We thought we might have to wait for check-in time before being allocated a room, but within 5 mins our room was ready. It was a good enough size, had all the necessaries for a basic hotel. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Not very knowledgeable about Ephesus etc., but they knoew enough to point us in the right direction. The pool was nice, clean and well-positioned, and the food (we paid 60ytl for 1 night half board) was excellent! I would stay there again, though admittedly our only purpose for being there was to see Ephesus - an amazing place, well worth visiting and one of the highlights of our stay. Make sure you haggle over everything, including taxi fares and especially souvenirs, and ask people who speak english (shop keepers generally do) how to go about your stay.

“A mistake”

My family and I drove down to Selcuk on a whim and ended up staying at the Hitit Hotel.

We should have turned around when we saw the trash outside on the curb at the hotel. But our exhaustion prompted us to walk in anyway. The lobby was quiet and dark. My husband, a Turk, mentioned that the other hotels in town were probably worse.
The carpet throughout the hotel was matted down and needed shampooing.

Our room was average size but the linens while clean had holes in them. The in room fridge didn't work and the bathroom was in need of repair. The breakfast offered by the hotel was the genera Turkish fare but did not look fresh. My husband and sisters opted to visit a local bakery. I refused to eat.

Needless to say we moved to another hotel, Sumerli, the next day.

“Hitit a Flop”

Hitit Hotel

We stayed here based on the Frommer's guide recommendation, and boy were we sorry. The town of Selcuk is right next to Ephesus, but this hotel is on the outskirts, so it is not in walking distance to restaurants, etc. Worse, though, is the dirty, dreary, tired condition of the hotel, which is referred to as "4-star" (don't know if this is Frommer's rating or Turkey's). The lobby is dark and decorated in 70's black lacquer, while the pool and patio were too dirty to be inviting. Carpets in the lobby and rooms were also dirty. A large bird population has taken to nesting in the window ledges/balconies of the bedrooms, so don't think of opening them. The bedrooms are quite drab, though the baths are clean and the air conditioning worked. If you aren't on a cruise, we would recommend staying any place but Selcuk. (Try Izmir to the north, or Bodrum to the south.)
Don't miss the Ephesus Museum, though, which is in Selcuk.

“Big but cosy”

Hitit Hotel

Hitit Hotel in Selcuk is big but it has a warm atmosphere. Certainly a big hotel in Selcuk for the tourist groups is needed and Hitit Hotel responds to this demand.
You can get a good price from the hotel. Rooms are big and of normal standards. They certainly meet the creteria for beeing a good hotel.
It is extra nice to be there from late spring to early autumn when you can eat outside and swim in the swimming pool.
Half of the rooms are located on the main road side ( there is a large parking place between the hotel and the road; therefore you are not directly into the road), half of the rooms are located at the rear side overlooking the orchards. Therefore I suggest you get a room overlooking the orchards.
The hotel has a professional administration and the experienced owner knows how the level of the standards should be at the hotel.
The hotel is located some distance from the town center of Selcuk. It is on the old road between Selcuk town-center and Izmir. In the evening time, when it dark, I suggest you take a taxi to/from Selcuk.
