“nice hotel for the price & esp the location”

Jerusalem Hotel

stayed here for 5 nights in Feb 08 and was happy with the heating ( didn't expect much after reading the last review about the heating & hot water) the location is a plus vs. king david (where I had a meal) and american colony (where I had drinks) right next to Dasmascus gate at a fraction of the price

at king daivd you get a better breakfast & american colony is a cute hotel as well but the location and convenience at the jerusalem hotel at a fraction of the price makes this place worth it unless you're planning to sit in your room all day

i wasn't too impressed with Abu Hassan's alternatives tours (he sits in the hotel's restaurant most of the time) esp since signed up for 2 of his tours for a Saturday (gave advance notice on thurs) I came by myself so he didn't have enough people to make a tour for either 1 of my choices but even when I asked him on sat afternoon he told me he'd call me by fri by 8 pm to let me know, when he didn't call and I called him later it was too late for me to make other tour arrangements (called other companies that were unfortunatelyy booked /full for either one of my 2 choices) ... I always believe in helping out the less established companies but in this case wasn't very professional of him

then same thing for his Bethlehem tour that cost 25usd per person that I took on monday, our tour guide spent 10 minutes of the 1 1/2 hour with us in bethelem at the milk grotto and church of nativity with the next one hour AND 10 minutes at a souvenir shop drinking tea/coffee where I bought a cheap wooden rosary necklace (out of sympathy) for US$22 and the rest of the time at a souq... the next 1 hour were hours spent on the road (this part I have no complaints on)
... i should have just taken an arab cab and enjoyed bethlehem at my own pace!

otherwise the experience with the hotel is great, decent food, ok breakfast, nice family that runs the hotel, well heated and comfy rooms (though of course not luxurious and not expecting too much for the price) but very convenient and I would not mind coming back here again (esp due to the locaiton ) vs inbal, king david & american colony

We stayed at the Jerusalem for several nights in January 2008. Unfortunately, the weather being particularly cold coincided with probelems the hotel was having with it's hot water and heating. The building and furniture are wonderful but the place is very dark and quite tired. Cleaning is not all it should be. We had a small room with single beds. Other guests also complained about the small, hard beds. Bathroom was tiny. Staff were very frinedly and did what they could to help. Location is fantastic.

“Jerusalem Hotel”

Jerusalem Hotel

Jan 5, 2008

Spent a week in Nov 07 at this hotel. Superb location for the old city, 2 mins from Damascus Gate. Staff friendly and rooms are great if you want that 'old jerusalem' feel. Food superb. I would stop at this hotel again in the future.

“Great Location and Excellent Value”

My mother and I enjoyed our stay at the Jerusalem Hotel. The location is a short 5-minute walk from the Damascus Gate of the Old City. Our room was HUGE and had a small balcony with a partial view of the Old City. The bathroom was small, but adequate. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant was inexpensive and convenient. It seemed to be a hangout for local journalists, students, etc. who camped out there with laptops.

We used the somewhat unusual parking lot arrangement (parking in an industrial workshop lot about 50 yards down the road) and it worked very well. The men there always immediately jumped into action to move cars as needed when we were coming or going, which I truly appreciated.

My only issue was with the constant noise coming from the minibus depot across the street. The good news was that the noise ceased at some point during the night and once that happened, you could have heard a pin drop as the area was completely quiet.

I've stayed in the King David in Jerusalem as well, and found the Jerusalem Hotel to be equally convenient and a great value for the price.

“perhaps the loveliest hotel I've ever seen”

The hotel is a medieval mansion, with stone floors and walls, enormously high ceilings, and beautiful antique furniture and light fixtures. It has a great restaurant in a private garden, serving great value, delicious Middle Eastern food. You can get strong Arabic coffee in the morning and delicious Palestinian wine in the evening. It is a five minute walk to Damascus Gate, into the Old City, and the environs around the hotel seem very safe (I traveled as a solo female traveler and felt perfectly safe). There is a taxi/bus depot in front of the hotel, for ease of getting to other parts of the city. The staff is very helpful, and speaks English and French, among other languages.
