“I would never stay here again”

Dan Panorama Tel Aviv

1 of 5 stars
London, UK
May 28, 2008

I've never been more compelled to write a review.

We re-confirmed our booking 3 days prior to travel. On arriving at the hotel (from UK) at 10pm we were told there were no rooms available, that they had overbooked.

We asked to speak to the manager, he spoke little English, and shrugged his shoulders. 'what can i do?'

We asked where we could stay, they said 'try another hotel'.

We asked which one and how to get there. They said 'try the InterContinental it's a five minute walk'

We said 'we do not know the area, are you not going to provide a car to take us there?'

'It's a 5 minute walk'

Unfortunately this was a business trip so we had to return to the Dan Panorama the next day (Part of a 9 day stay + we were assured there would be rooms for us).

They checked my colleague in without a problem. They couldn't find my booking. Not impressed. Kicked up a fuss and then they managed to 'find' the booking.

The hotel is nice enough. Nothing special. I noticed the rooms are cleaned in approx 10 minutes and your wet towels are returned to the towel rack.

The executive lounge is a joke.

The female receptionists were a delight. The manager and the male receptionists need serious lessons in how to smile and be helpful.

On leaving and checking my credit card statement i have noticed 3 'unknown to me' charges on my credit card.

One charge for $80 was subsequently credited at a lower exchange rate costing me money. A 400 shekel charge remains. I know nothing about this charge. I have phoned the hotel and they have been unable to help.

My bank is now checking for me.

Not what you expect from Israel's largest hotel group.

“Pleasant stay!”

Dan Panorama Tel Aviv

4 of 5 stars
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
May 11, 2008

Some have given this hotel very bad reviews, and I was apprehensive before going. But, I enjoyed my stay, and thought it wasn't that bad. My husband was there on business so we stayed in an Executive room which gave us access to the King David lounge which was great. It serves complimentary light refreshments with beer and wine all day. Couldn't beat it after a hard day of sightseeing to go relax in there. The breakfast was spectacular. Not sure about the review that panned the juice. The Tel Aviv location has a juice bar. Making smoothies, fresh squeezed OJ, carrot juice, whatever you want for breakfast. The room was very accommodating. Very clean, and I think freshly renovated. Nothing fancy, with a very small balcony. Probably the smallest balcony I have every seen. My only complaint was the front desk staff. Ralph was NOT nice. He was a little deceptive when booking tours. Didn't give us ALL the information. Another guy gave me the wrong exchange for shekels, and I didn't notice at first. Not sure if it was an honest mistake or just a want to get a few extra bucks. An older women with bifocals was the only nice person at the front desk, plus the bellboy Arial was fantastic. Very helpful. All in all it was a pleasant stay.

“Avoid this hotel unless you are a NY tour group”

Dan Hotels are the largest group in Israel and perhaps as a result they have a take it or leave it attitude. Despite being situated next to the Carmel fruit market they had neither fresh fruit nor juices at breakfast, only canned. Similarly in four days stay I never once managed to have hot water for tea, only lukewarm.
The room was shabby, with peeling paint, and to add insult to injury on my third day I was evicted to make room for hundreds of American tourists with the casual comment that "we have overbooked, sorry about that but we are moving you to another hotel". When I asked to see the manager to complain I was told that he was too busy to talk to me.

The hotel is very tired and worn out. You can basically feel it one you enter the room and live with the furniture. But on the other hand the room is quite spacious and clean. The dinner we had was very poor BUT the breakfast buffet was absolutely gorgeous. One final note is that the hotel is not that centrally located.

“Very good value and close to Jaffo”

We spent 3 nights there late February. Due to renovations, they gave us an oceanfront room which was delightful with a balcony. All rooms have a balcony.
The room was large with a refrigerator, the breakfasts enormous and tasty.
The location was very good for our tasttes, close to Neve Zedek and close to Yaffo. Since we are interested in soccer, we were able to walk to Greenfield Stadium in Jaffo as well as have dinner on the coast.
There may be better locations for using the beach area, but this was pretty close.
The value was excellent and we would certainly consider returning.
The weather was very good during our stay.
