“This place almost ruined my vacation.”

Momo's Hostel

San Francisco
Jan 21, 2008

This is the worst place I have ever stayed at, and I have stayed at some very bad hotels and hostels. DO NOT STAY HERE!

My boyfriend and I booked a private room on a hostel website through Momo's webpage. It turns out what we booked is considered by Momo's to be their lowest quality room, and we were treated badly later because of this.

As we checked in the man at the counter was very, very kind and gave us the key. We went upstairs and the room was very small and a bit dirty at first glance, but the location of the hostel was perfect and we weren't expecting much for 42 bucks a night, so we set our stuff down and relaxed for a bit. When we began to pick things up again they were filthy because of plaster on the carpet that had been flaking from the wall. We could no longer put anything on the ground.

After coming back from dinner I noticed that there were various parts of cockroaches on the carpet. That's really, really gross. At that point I just wanted to go to sleep. The sheets were filthy and the blankets even dirtier, so I was glad we had our sleeping bags with us.

I awoke in the middle of the night thinking that I must still be dreaming. There was no way it was raining inside my room I told myself. When I awoke a short while later I realized that I wasn't dreaming. It actually was raining inside my room, right onto me and my bed. I pulled my water resistant sleeping bag over my head and tried to sleep until 7 or 8 the next morning.

To make a long, horrible story short, they would not give us our money back for the night of getting rained on and had the nerve to charge us extra to change rooms. The extra charge was because of the heater. After I paid the extra charge I found out the heater was broken. When I said "I got charged extra for a room because of the heater and it's broken!" all I got was a "Sorry," with shrugged sholders and a turn away.

The room we got moved to had floors so dirty they were turning black and black mold all over the bathroom. I saw the maid folding the blankets on the floor. The new room still had someone else's towel on the door.

This place was so moldy, disgusting and just plain awful that I contacted American Express and they are doing an investigation and I was told by a customer service representative that he thinks I am going to get my money back.

Again, I reiterate, DO NOT STAY HERE!

p.s. On the plus side the staff was very helpful with knowing how to get around and the location can't be beat. But it's still disgusting.

i first went to mo mo's in 1991 september.i had a brilliant time there,i stayed about a week the first time.i went to the moshav ein-yahav and stayed there 8 months.but when i left,i came back to mo mo's.i returned in 2001 october.i stayed there for ages.we used to get work from the hostel.we all stayed in room 17.that was a crazy room.if you liked drinking vodka and beer.that was the place for you.met a lot of good friends there.but the isreali police raided the hostel, lokking for people without visas and took those without away.i finaly had enough of all that and went to eilat, where i met my wife.i managed one more visit to mo mo's,only popped in for a beer and to say see ya to mo mo.it was a good place but now i think it's not cos of the deportations that went on.but it was a great place to stay in the 90's
