“The other side of the Dead Sea”

Four Seasons Hotel Amman

Jun 15, 2008

My wife and I had been in Egypt and Israe for our honeymoon, so for our 20th we wen't to th other side of the Dead Sea. We had a lovely time at the Four Seasons Amman and took a package that got us day trips to Petra and the Dead Sea.

Amman is a really interesting city, but the things within striking distance are amazing. You have already read enough about Petra, if you like the idea please make the trip! Only 1 hour north of Amman is Jerash. It is not quite the same as Pompeii because it was never fully buried, but the Roman ruins cover at least 2 kilometres in length with more being excavated. It is said to be the best preserved Middle-Eastern Roman era ruin.

The Dead Sea is pretty amusing - the buckets of mud provided are free so you can happily try some.

Mt Nebus is where Moses is said to have been shown the promised land and also legend has it that he is buried there. The panorama from the Jordanian side is splendid, and it is higher than the Israeli side so a bit more dramatic.

The Four Seasons has a lovely breakfast buffet, an OK dinner buffet and some good value local food options for in-room dining. They didn't put out picnic on the Petra day in heatproof boxes which was a runny smelly mistake! The package was new and I don't think they had thought that one through yet.

All the staff / drivers (Mahmoud was very reliable) / waiters were friendly and efficient. The hotel is a 15 minute taxi from downtown and with rooftops rather than spectacular views. We had a lovely time.

“No pool, but could not fault the service”

Four Seasons Hotel Amman

Jun 3, 2008

My wife and I arrived on the late flight from the UK at about 1am. No problem at all with the room or breakfast, however as we tried to use the outdoor pool, we were told that it was closed for several days, due to sandblasting. Now, as I was in Amman on business for 4 days and my wife was there for a holiday, it was not the ideal situation to be presented with - I could not expect my wife to be couped up inside the hotel for 4 days, especially as she was looking forward to getting outside in the heat.

To cut a long story short, we moved out of the hotel and across the road to the Sheraton, on the recommendation of the manager.

I have to say though, that despite our complaint that we should have been pre-warned that the outdoor pool would be closed (at least there should have been a notification on the website), we received excellent service from the duty manager. He even brought over on his way home some shirts which I had put in for pressing to the Sheraton that night - that's what I call service.

Not only that, but two days later my wife received a call from the same manager apologising for the inconvenience caused to us and would we like a free massage each?!

The manager's comment was something like..'well we just want to make sure that when you return to Amman, you will choose the Four Seasons'.

Suffice to say the massage was excellent - their Spa area is second to none.

Although we were only there for several hours, following the service we received, I would definitely recommend the hotel and on my next visit we will be staying there.

“Excellent”

This is a very nice hotel in a central location in Amman.
There are good leisure facilites and a great spa with a nice pool indoor and outdoor.
Public areas are spacious tastefully decorated and impressive the ubiqutus but magnificent flower arrangements are in the marble floored lobby.

Rooms have views of the City and service is excellent as can be anticpated in a Four Seasons Hotel .
An excellent choice if in Amman.

“excellent!”

Four Seasons Hotel Amman

This is a great hotel. Lunch buffet fabulous. Extremely friendly, helpful and courteous staff. This hotel is highly recommended. Easy access from airport highway. Central location. Don't settle for a cheaper hotel. I see a lot of hotels as an airline pilot. This is one of the best.

“Everything you need and expect”

Four Seasons Hotel Amman

I'm a regular guest at the Four Seasons in Amman, and unreservedly recommend it. It provides the service you'd expect for the price but with typical Jordanian warmth and charm. Nothing is too much of a problem for the staff, right down to finding a spare set of collar stays.

The rooms themselves are spacious although the baths are small and I personally find the showers are not good (i.e. strong and broad) enough. The sports facilities are of a high standard, including indoor and outdoor pools, well equipped gym with CV machines and free weights, plus a sauna and steam room. Even a squash court. Dining options in the hotel are fine although very expensive - there are much, much better places to go in Amman - and the breakfast buffet is one of the better ones I've tried.

When the Four Seasons is full I tend to stay over the road at the Sheraton, which has only a quarter of the charm and style of this property.

Only two things count against it: the location, which is on the fifth circle and therefore a good way from the city centre if that's what interests you; and the cost of internet access which is (frustratingly, as with so many big hotels) grossly overpriced. And it didn't take long to spot that the Hangover Restaurant Pub at the end of the block - NOT part of the Four Seasons - attracts, shall we say, a certain type of Eastern European lady...

Compared with other locations in Amman, the Four Seasons is an excellent choice.
