“Nice hotel but smelly bathroom”

Mariam Hotel

Nov 14, 2007
8/9 found this review helpful

We spend one night in this hotel in November 2007.

Pros:
- Very friendly staff
- Very good located, close to the city center
- Free parking
- Nice, very clean room
- Outdoor pool (the weather was too cold though ;-)

Cons:
- Smelly bathroom although it looked very clean
- Loud water pipes running close to my bed (this problem might be limited to a few rooms)
- Several signs saying that hotel would charge you for any beverages you brought from outside of the hotel ... a rather strange policy for a budget hotel

“Good value, very helpful staff”

We stayed two nights at the Mariam and we were glad we did. The hotel is clean, well maintained and was well located, about a quick 10 minute walk to town. What we appreciated so much was the helpfulness of the staff in arranging tours, taxis, etc. They made a point to actually speak with taxi drivers to make sure they understood -- it was that attention that really sold us on the Mariam.
We only ate breakfast there but seeing the dinner we decided not to stay at the hotel - the food was not particularly good. They did give us an excellent recommendation for a restaurant in town, however. The pool area was nice and we enjoyed just sitting outside our room looking over the city.
I would recommend this hotel and also staying in Madaba.

I and my wife stayed here last month, in Aug '07.

Even when we entered, we were greeted nicely and with friendliness. When we had some serious proble, Charl rang up his neighbour at the middle of the night, brought his friend to the Hotel to help us out. it was about midnight 12:30 or so. And solved our problem!

The swimmoing pool is best place also to swim, relax and exercise! The restaurant adjacent to it and the seating arrangements are really giving us a sense of comfort and good moods!

The staff of the hotel are very hospitable and competant. They are only ready to help you should you need any!

We know that Jordan is a safe country; but stay in Mariam Hotel has also made it very comfortable and enjoyable ! Very memorable experience!

“Loved the Mariam”

As the camp manager for a 5-week 30-person archaeological expedition I found the Mariam to be ideal. The prices are reasonable and the food very good and served when we want. On the few occasions when we ate out the hotel staff adjusted on short notice. They are friendly and operate with a teamwork that is infectious. The rooms are well cleaned despite the dirt we came in wearing. A wide variety of services are offered at reasonable costs. Wireless Internet is available in some areas, but computer telephoning is erratic (possibly due to bandwidth limitations in external infrastructure). We’ll be back at the Mariam for future Seasons. -- Paul Holdorf
