Okay, we went with this idea of a romantic getaway in Jose Ignacio, because they say there are no appartment towers and it is very pristine etc.

Be aware that this is VERY removed from ANYTHING. Not to mention the set-up is sketchy.

My husband and I felt like we were intruding on the family's home --- it's more like their summer home and they have meals in the open altogether while we would be sitting at a table in the dining room feeling awkward. I speak spanish and so it wasn't the language barrier.

The owner's dog attacked my husband right in front of him and he did nothing to stop the dog but kept on skimming the pool pretending not to notice. Funny to look back on it but scary at the time.

Then we discovered we could not pay for anything unless we had cash but a taxi would have cost $100 there and back to the nearest bank (easily a two hour trip). We asked if we could rent his car to get to the bank machine, he tried to con us into paying the entire week for his car vs one day to get to the bank and finally we decided against that. He was so rude and unhelpful that we decided we should leave.

We wasted an entire day trying to catch a bus and going from town to town to find a working bank machine. BRING CASH IN THEIR CURRENCY. We finally got money and decided to check in to a hotel in La Barra, a great little town.

When we tried to leave he said we would still have to pay for the additional nights we were not staying...we ended up paying and leaving anyways because the vibe was so bad.

The place is nice looking though, no tv's or airconditioning though. But nice, airy rooms with doors that open to the yard.
