My family stayed at this hotel for 1 week. I rate it above average because of the generally poor grade of accomodations available for reasonable prices in Yangon. Perhaps a 3 star rating would be more accurate.
Good points of the hotel: The staff was extremely helpful and eager to make our stay pleasant. The consierge arranged transportation, babysitting services, etc. The rooms were clean and the staff would bring us extra towels, etc. free of charge. Best of all, the A/C unit was super-powered, and would drop the room to 68 degrees in about 45 minutes. The food was adequate if not exceptional, but the included breakfasts were varied enough to stay interesting. You could choose from omlets, traditional Burmese breakfasts, British-influenced fare, and other items, with excellent fresh fruit. The water was hot 24 hours per day.
The bar was mostly very quiet, and a somewhat talented cover band played on Friday nights to an empty bar. They deserved at least some audience. The pool tables and dart boards were in good repair and quite functional. Note to the barfly: There are bottles of other liquors under the bar, so if you don't see what you like ask. I like Jack Daniel's, but didn't know they had it until my last day. Beware of Myanmar Beer. One night I had 4 glasses and thought my head would explode the next day.
The fitness center is ok if you don't expect too much. You have weight machines, a couple of stairmasters, and a few free weights.
The bad points: The bathrooms were somewhat mildewed. There were lizards on the room ceilings at night (didn't bother me though) and my kids got ill after swimming in the pool. It was the rainy season and I think they couldn't keep up adding the proper chlorine to account for the large amount of rain and runoff.
All in all, a reasonable place to stay for a fair price.
