“Wonderful first time experience in Cairo”

Semiramis InterContinental Cairo

After experiencing delays leaving the airport we finally arrived at the InterContinental Semiramis around 2:30 in the morning and were immediately greeted by an extremely friendly doorman. He gave us a quick history of the hotel and area we were looking out at over the Nile and offered to be of assistance anytime we needed.

The checkin was a little slower than I have experienced in other hotels but as I learned throughout my 2 weeks in Cairo, nothing happens quickly.

The room was nice, a bit in need of refurbishment but very clean and comfortable. The bed was firm and the pillows exactly what we needed after travelling for 24 hours.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and found every staff member from housekeeping to concierge to be extremely friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast and most lunches in the restaurant "Night and Day", once the staff explained the buffett to us we found the food and service to be very enjoyable.

We also ate lunch at Pane Vino and enjoyed the patio overlooking the river, both the food and atmosphere were wonderful. We also experienced 2 dinners at The Grill once we heard from friends who live in Cairo that it was arguably one of THE best restaurants in Cairo...we were not disappointed!

We were able to arrange for a sunset falucca sail out on the Nile with the concierge..which was their recommendation and a wonderful one at that!

The concierge was also able to book small tours for us to travel to Giza, Sakkara and experience the city and wonders of the Cairo museum. Our guide was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable.

By the end of our time in Cairo we felt as if we were residents and can't wait to go back and bring friends!

“Good”

Semiramis InterContinental Cairo

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in May, 2008. We were with a tour group which this hotel seems to caters to. All in all, we had a good stay at this Intercontenental, Compared to the chaos of Cairo, the hotel was a traquil refuge. I had read that the hotel was shabby, but we did not find that to be true. The hotel is located in a busy area of the city (overlooking the Nile) that does not lend itself to stolling through the neighborhood. The traffic is heavy, crossing the streets is difficult, and there are no interesting shops.

There are quite a few restaurant choices in the hotel and the buffet breakfast is excellent. For those interested, there are a casino, shops and a pool.

We were woken each morning, rather early, with the "Call to Pray" at a local mosque.

“Oasis of calm after long trip”

Having spent the night on the overnight seater train from Luxor this hotel was a welcome relief

We did have a few hiccups on arrival & had to change room due to the constant noise of the elevator which was close to the original room we were given but they were very amenable when I rang to complain (it appears it is a common complaint)

Wide range of facilities and great balcony to sit in watching the chaos of cairo go by

Expensive yes, but having expereinced some of the other options available within Cairo & Egypt it is definitely worth the extra money

“Too large, a little tired, but well-located”

This large property is located in the center of things, within walking distance of the Egyptian Museum and other hotels and restaurants, but it lacks the "feel" of Egypt and needs a bit of renovation to bring it up to contemporary standards.

“Very good hotel”

Stayed here for a couple of nights before heading off on a Nile cruise. Thought this hotel was really very good. We had a good sized room, over-looking the Nile and the bedroom was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was also clean - but a bit dated and seemed a bit 'tired' compared to the bedrooms and the rest of the hotel.

The staff that we encountered were all very helpful.

We ate in the 'Night & Day' cafe for breakfast, afternoon tea in the 'Tea Garden' and had dinner in both the Italian restauarnt and the Lebanese restaurant (can't remember their names). We thought the food was very good - especially the Lebanese restaurant, which we would strongly recommend.

All in all a good place to stay, and if we return to Cairo, would look to stay there again.
