After experiencing delays leaving the airport we finally arrived at the InterContinental Semiramis around 2:30 in the morning and were immediately greeted by an extremely friendly doorman. He gave us a quick history of the hotel and area we were looking out at over the Nile and offered to be of assistance anytime we needed.
The checkin was a little slower than I have experienced in other hotels but as I learned throughout my 2 weeks in Cairo, nothing happens quickly.
The room was nice, a bit in need of refurbishment but very clean and comfortable. The bed was firm and the pillows exactly what we needed after travelling for 24 hours.
We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and found every staff member from housekeeping to concierge to be extremely friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast and most lunches in the restaurant "Night and Day", once the staff explained the buffett to us we found the food and service to be very enjoyable.
We also ate lunch at Pane Vino and enjoyed the patio overlooking the river, both the food and atmosphere were wonderful. We also experienced 2 dinners at The Grill once we heard from friends who live in Cairo that it was arguably one of THE best restaurants in Cairo...we were not disappointed!
We were able to arrange for a sunset falucca sail out on the Nile with the concierge..which was their recommendation and a wonderful one at that!
The concierge was also able to book small tours for us to travel to Giza, Sakkara and experience the city and wonders of the Cairo museum. Our guide was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable.
By the end of our time in Cairo we felt as if we were residents and can't wait to go back and bring friends!
