It was my first time and will hopefully be my last time at a Hilton. It strikes me how a nice hotel can be so poorly managed.
I am fairly disappointed as to the low standard that Hilton accepts from its franchisees.
The Hotel itself is big, but nothing special. Besides the pool and the golf course there are hardly any amenities. There is the “Dreamland Spa” but it is, while open, still under construction and highly overpriced. Even to visit the small gym costs about US$ 14,-.
The pool is nice but not great, the golf course, which is not managed by the hotel, seems to be quite ok.
The customers seem to be senior tourist group who got a check flight and hotel package.
The reception staff must be the only staff that actually received some job training. The rest of the staff are just useless.
Breakfast:
The only nice thing about breakfast was the orange juice machine (if you forget for a moment, that it probably never got cleaned). They got rid of it. Now it is just watered down Juice.
The rest about Breakfast is just a headache.
If you find a clear table, you are probably missing some cutlery. Prepare to use your fork to stir your coffee.
Coffee, most of the time, is self service.
If you find anything that tastes ok, be assured that they will manage to run out of it over the next few days. But the breakfast manager couldn’t care less.
The sandwiches and coffee at the Mobil “On the Run” fuel station shop not far from the hotel are far better than the food that you will get at the hotel.
Restaurant:
During the day, the breakfast area serves as a Restaurant of some sort. You will hardly ever find anyone eating there. The food is awful, the selection dismal and the staff the same incompetent people that already spoiled your morning at breakfast.
I once told room service that I wanted him to make me nice French Fries with my chicken burger because his French Fries were always cold and soaked in oil. The cook started arguing with me over the phone that his French Fries were delicious and how I dared to complain.
Dinner:
Same as above.
However, there is a silver lining. Walk over to the Swiss Inn Hotel (next door). It has a nice little Asian Fusion Restaurant upstairs. The food is good and the staff well trained.
I rather eat cold delivery KFC than the food at the hotel.
Laundry:
They will wake you up in the middle of the night, just to ensure you are in your room and for the prospect of a tip. They will not deliver for days, if you don’t pick up the phone.
Taxis:
A complete rip off. They have black taxis (at least 30 year old wracked cars) waiting outside all day for the concierge to ring them for their turn to rip off some stupid tourist. I am sure the concierge makes a good cut.
The hotel says it has some normal cars with driver through Avis, but they are never available and even more a rip off.
Internet:
After 3 months of complaining, the overpriced, low speed internet service (US$ 400/month) seems to not drop out so many times anymore.
Location:
Not close to the pyramids. The traffic is horror. There is nothing to do here (except for golf). One is literally imprisoned here.
Management:
Myself and my colleagues complained to management many times. I had an appointment set up with the customer relation manager once, but she didn’t bother to show up for the meeting.
In reality, this hotel suffers from the arrogance and incompetence of its management.
There are so many better choices in Cairo and around 6th October area (Moevenpick, Swiss Inn).
Nearly all hotels around the center (along the Nile / Maadi) are quite decent.
Do not stay at this hotel.
