my family and i stayed here 28-5-08-11-6-08 good location good hotel facilities but when we went outside the hotel we got nothing but hassle from the street vendors and beggars every 10 yards i adise people to only go for a week this is plenty of time to see the west bank (valley of the kings and queens)and the cairo museum and the sphinx and pyramids which is only a 50 minute flight do not book this with your tour rep book it in resort with a local tour company our tour rep wanted £40 each to do the west bank we gt it with the local company for half that the tour rep wanted £153 to do the cairo and pyramid tour we got it for £93 with the local company but beware we were enduring tempretures of 114 in the shade and the hotel air con was only just coping

“Not the cleanest hotel”

We had stayed in the Nile Palace whilst we stayed in Luxor but our return flight was delayed by many hours (problem with plane). As the nile palace was fully booked we were unable to keep our rooms. Cosmos sent all the guests to the Mercure to get some sleep and freshen up whilst we awaited more news of when our plane would be repaired. First impressions were ok, but when we were given keys to our room (chalet) we were horrified. The rooms were dirty, dated, the bath had scum marks all around. The chalet are in blocks in the grounds of hotel and when you walk down the corridors to your rooms it is like walking down a wing of a prison. The doors are not very secure, the balcony doors didnt lock. We went to reception to inform them that we were not happy with the standard of the room we were given and there was quite a few people already there with the same complaint. We got together and phoned cosmos and insisted on being move to a cleaner, safer hotel, which they did. My advice is pay an extra £20 per week and get a much better hotel at least one that is clean and secure.

“dirty and dated hoteld”

Mercure Luxor

Our flight was delayed and tour operator arranged a night for us at this hotel which was supposedly of the same class as our sonesta cruise.

We were given a twin room (with hairballs on the bathroom floor) instead of double room and we requested to be moved. The rooms were a good size with ample storage space, but very dusty and dirty inside the drawers and cupboards.

Very dated decor with numerous yellow stains on the ?cream lampshades. Carpet was unvacuumed and unclean with pieces of chocolate on the floor near the bin.

There were stains on the pillowcases. Bedsheets looked washed but had several hairs on it from previous occupants. The staff promptly changed the sheets on request.

Summary - friendly staff, good pool but dirty rooms with several-decades-old furnishings.

Just returned from spending 20 days at the Mercure and regarding my previous post I am happy to report that my stay was very enjoyable, the bath in my usual room had been replaced with a new bath.I had a basket of fruit, soft drinks and water left in my room as a complimentary gesture as a returning guest which was a very nice thought, service is still on the slow side especialy at breakfast when you can wait for ages for a tea or coffee and I got a little impatient, its not that the waiters are rushed off their feet just in a world of their own but all in all a very enjoyable 20 days

“Excellent hotel”

Mercure Luxor

Returned 2 days ago from Luxor. First week on the Magic 1 cruise boat which was excellent and then 1 week at the Mercure.
Lovely hotel - we had a Nile view and they are currently refurbishing rooms, ours had already been done and was spacious ,clean and the bathroom complete with bath and shower was immaculate.
The hotel seemed huge after a week on the boat and we spent the week relaxing by the pool to recover from the hectic cruise !
The pool area is kept clean and tidy and there was never a shortage of sun loungers and the pool attendant was on the go all day, bringing towels over and finding loungers where you wanted them - eg in shade or sun.
The pool is large and very refreshing this time of year !
The breakfast buffet has plenty of food and a great assortment of rolls, pastires, cereals, omelettes, salad, fruit, yoghurt etc etc.
No problem with the staff. Very attentive and polite.
Cant understand some of the bad reviews this hotel gets. No rude unhelpful staff for us - perhaps it depends how you speak to them !
Would certainly return.
