“Lovely place to stay!”

We stayed here as part of a Cruise/Cairo/Luxor combo with Archers Direct.

I suspect people will be worried about the building works. We asked for a quiet room through Archers because we already knew about the works. We got a 1st floor room and were not bothered once by the works, even when we were outside we didn't notice it. I agree with other people though that the works won't be finished by September!

The Sonesta is a lovely hotel and is in a brilliant location. It's pool and terrace area is directly on the Nile. The pool area is fantastic with comfortable loungers and attentive staff.

The breakfast buffet was great, plenty of choice including cereals, pastries, omlettes, fruit, local dishes and a Japenese selection! We tried the Italian restaurant which was nice enough but we had better (and cheaper) meals whilst there. I wouldn't recommend half board. There are plenty of other options within walking distance.

The rooms are lovely, very clean.

Locally would recommend John&Johns at the Gaddis Hotel - 5 minute walk. Great steak and chips for £4.50 and really friendly service.

Also, Moonlight Travel across the street for local trips. A fraction of the price the tour operators charge and you all end up on the same buses/hot air balloons! There's nothing more irritating than hearing someone in the same basket say they paid £25 for the balloon flight when you've paid £60+!

“Loved the bar in the pool”

Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor

May 28, 2008

My partner and I stayed here for 4 days at the end of our Nile Cruise. It was far more luxurious than we imagined with a fantastic swimming pool, restaurants, good breakfast and large clean rooms.
We were not affected at all by the building works.

The pool staff are very attentive and go out of their way to help you. One thing we particularly liked was the "swim-up" bar located in the swimming pool. However, as with most places in Egypt, the drinks are very expensive. It was £3 for a bottle of beer and £6 for a glass of wine or a spirit.

The location is great too - it is right on the Nile with great views from the pool area and bar. And it is situated amongst lots of shops, restaurants and bars.

Really can't complain about this place at all.

“Loved the view and decor!”

Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor

May 28, 2008

The hotel decor and standard is exquisite! We stayed in a suite on the 2nd floor on the pool side area where we had a beautiful view of the Nile from our lounge and a view of the city from the balcony outside the bedroom.

As a result of previous reviews and advice from this website, we didn't get as much of the construction noise (they're currently adding a few more floors to the hotel) as some other people since we specifically asked for a pool side 2nd/3rd floor room although we were out most afternoons.

The general service, restaurants, swimming pool and cleanliness was of a very high standard and I am definitely revisiting this hotel and hopefully ask for the same suite we stayed in.

“THE GYM/SPA”

Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor

May 25, 2008

I did not stay at this hotel but we did visti the spa and gym, thought I should warn other people not to waste their money. The gym is very poorly equipped and there is no assistance offered to help you use the equipment. The spa is also of a very poor standard compared to other spas i have used, It is not conductive to relaxation at all. It was very basic and poorly planned layout. Very few facilites provided, there was not even soap in some of the showers. It really needed a good clean and updating. Ocerall not worth anywhere near what they charge.

“Comfortable and Clean”

Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor

Camarillo, California

Upon arriving at Luxor, we got a taxi from the airport and checked into our hotel at around 10 p.m. Service by staff was pretty good. We did not get a Nile view but instead got a suite facing the street. As always, even in Luxor, very loud outside no matter where you are because every driver honks their horn every 10 seconds, since traffic lights, lanes, signals and signs mean nothing to them. Also the calls to prayer from loudspeakers from mosques all around - but we got used to this after the first night. Hotel was very clean, with a free AWESOME breakfast buffet. Has 24 hour cafe and ATM and info on tours. Internet is way too expensive. Has a pool outside which was very nice, since it faces the Nile river and a swim up bar. Do not buy water inside the hotel unless necessary. 1 large 2 liter bottle costs 13 Egyptian pounds while outside from a small shop it costs 3 Egyptian Pounds. When you walk down the street outside (which has lots of shops), you will be bombarded by taxi drivers offering you their services and by shop owners who will try to lure you into their shops. It is quite bothersome and so annoying at times, be prepared for this.
