This place is amazing and the best place to stop over after a long flight from the UK.
We booked to stay one night in The House of Waine at the start of our honeymoon in Kenya and Zanzibar (see other reviews of Shompole and Breezes) and how we had wished we had booked more time here!
On arrival in Nairobi, we were up against the most torrential rain our tour operators had ever known. Our local representative picked us up from Nairobi airport and we travelled to The House of Waine in Karen in the most horrendous conditions I have ever seen. The roads had literally turned into rivers and on turning off of the main roads, we were hit with water rising over the bonnet of the car!! All I can say is that our first impressions of Kenya were not great, but how that changed when we were greeted at The House of Waine!!
It was late at night, teeming with rain, but still they had a welcome party for us and cool, refreshing (and acoholic!!) cocktails waiting! They seated us in the beautiful reception area, whisked our luggage up to our room and asked if we would like something to eat.
At 10.30pm, we were starving and expected a snack menu, but no, we were offered anything off of the main menu! We ordered just a main course of fillet of beef and they offered for us to retire to our room and it would be brought up to us!
Well, the room was fantastic, although homely, very romantic and beautifully furnished. As we were on our honeymoon, we had rose petals scattered across the floor, even in to the bathroom, roses on the bed and a bottle of champers waiting to be popped!
We cracked into the champage, slipped into our robes and jumped on to the 4 poster to await our meal. And that did not dissapoint either, the most succulent beef I have ever had!
The only moaning point I had about this stay, is that we were not here long enough! I would definitely love to go back for a longer stay and would definitely recommend for travellers to stay here on their return journey to break up the long hours of travelling back to the UK.
