What a nice surprise! I only spent one night at the House of Waine before heading out for a two-week safari but I still loved my short stay at the hotel. You have to pass through two gates both manned by armed guards to get to the front door so you feel extremely secure despite Nairobi's reputation for crime. After coming from the United States, we were hungry and exhausted. We were served, to our delight, a delicious meal in the pretty dining room and then taken to our rooms. They were very large, with 15-foot ceilings, big windows, well-equipped bathrooms, and nice bedding. Breakfast was just as tasty as dinner. After enjoying the morning spread of eggs, bacon, pastries, and homemade breads, we wandered the immaculate grounds before leaving for the airport. The pool was nice, but it was too cold to swim. Every staff member with whom I came in contact was courteous, efficient, and friendly. We stayed one night at the Norfolk Hotel on the way out...I would recommend the House of Waine.

I spent the last night of my trip at the House of Waine, I didn't expect much just somewhere to stay before the flight home the following morning... I could not have been more wrong. We arrived at around midday to find a beautifully made table on in the back garden, from that point on we knew that we were in good hands! The food was amazing, the service was exceptional, and the accommodation superb. As an African travel consultant I have stayed at my fair share of hotels, and loges in East Africa, the house of waine is one of my favourites and without doubt the finest place to stay in Nairobi. I recommend the House of Waine to anyone whishing to stay in Nairobi at any stage in the future.

“A gem!”

House of Waine is a true gem! This cozy little oasis is the perfect destination for an R&R stay after a long international flight, or to get away for a few days. You'll never know you're in the middle of bustling Nairobi. It is cozy and elegant with beautiful grounds (love the heated pool!!), delicious food, gracious staff, and excellent service. The stocked mini-bars are complimentary, the in-room safes are larger than standard ones, and the bathrooms are spacious and elegant. I've stayed here several times and will consider no other place in Nairobi.

“Fantastic start to our honeymoon”

House of Waine

This place is amazing and the best place to stop over after a long flight from the UK.

We booked to stay one night in The House of Waine at the start of our honeymoon in Kenya and Zanzibar (see other reviews of Shompole and Breezes) and how we had wished we had booked more time here!

On arrival in Nairobi, we were up against the most torrential rain our tour operators had ever known. Our local representative picked us up from Nairobi airport and we travelled to The House of Waine in Karen in the most horrendous conditions I have ever seen. The roads had literally turned into rivers and on turning off of the main roads, we were hit with water rising over the bonnet of the car!! All I can say is that our first impressions of Kenya were not great, but how that changed when we were greeted at The House of Waine!!

It was late at night, teeming with rain, but still they had a welcome party for us and cool, refreshing (and acoholic!!) cocktails waiting! They seated us in the beautiful reception area, whisked our luggage up to our room and asked if we would like something to eat.
At 10.30pm, we were starving and expected a snack menu, but no, we were offered anything off of the main menu! We ordered just a main course of fillet of beef and they offered for us to retire to our room and it would be brought up to us!
Well, the room was fantastic, although homely, very romantic and beautifully furnished. As we were on our honeymoon, we had rose petals scattered across the floor, even in to the bathroom, roses on the bed and a bottle of champers waiting to be popped!
We cracked into the champage, slipped into our robes and jumped on to the 4 poster to await our meal. And that did not dissapoint either, the most succulent beef I have ever had!

The only moaning point I had about this stay, is that we were not here long enough! I would definitely love to go back for a longer stay and would definitely recommend for travellers to stay here on their return journey to break up the long hours of travelling back to the UK.

We used the House of Waine as our Nairobi home base while honeymoon travelling in Kenya, Tanzania and Seychelles. In between trips we kept returning here and they were always extremely polite, friendly, accomodating and served excellent food. It is a family operation with the owners usually being the ones to greet you. I can't say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a wonderful place to stay while in Nairobi. If we are fortunate enough to visit Nairobi again we will definitely be back here.
