We arrived at Richards Camp having already stayed at Shompole and Ol Seki Camp , two very luxurious (especially Shompole) places of accomadation. When we arrived at Richards Camp however we were not let down.
We were warmley greeted by Vannesa who is a brilliant host and her cute dog Foxy. This camp consists of a ring of tents( very large) that are all luxuriously furnished. Proper beds and showers (a man powerd job by a staff member) but no nets because you don't need them.
The wonderful thing about the camp is its openess. Zebras casually stroll through the camp and one in particullar has virtually become a pet , a great oppourtunity to take that dream photo if you can't yet master it on safari . Its not just the zebras that like strolling thorugh at night , often you might hear a hippo outside your tent at night, however do not be fazed ,there is always a very strong man on guard.
Dinning is good. However having lunch outside is although a nice idea, there are hundreds of flies to ruin your experience. Dinner however is very pleasant, all the members of the camp have drinks around the fire (having already had sundowners in the wilderness) - all the spirits you could want available- and chat before moving to dinner , again eating all together with hosts and all. Its a nice way of meeting new people and sharing experiences.
The game drives are the main theme of the day , most safaris happen at early morning or dusk when the animals are moving yet there are some day trips , these mostly venture inside the Masai Mara park itslef . This trip is great as we saw migrating wilderbeast and had lunch by a river full of hippos. The animals are in great abundance near Richards Camp , so many lions and girrafes. The wildlife inside the camp is even better than inside the Masai Mara park itself.
For a true african camping experience , without the cruelty of camping , go to Richards Camp!
