“still craving Myvita Grill lobster....!”

Feel compelled to write a review after reading some not so good ones!
We stayed at Nyali Beach Hotel for 8 days in August for our honeymoon and we had the most fabulous holiday - definetely once in a lifetime experience!
We found the food was better than we expected and we ate a large variety of foods - including ice cream and jelly, which we had been told before leaving the UK would make us ill - and enjoyed it all! While I had never been a big seafood fan, I have come back from the holiday with a new found appreciation for it, after sampling lobster, king fish, dorado fish and the fabulous 'Nyali fish and chips', which is Red Snapper and is delicious! We also enjoyed the terrace BBQ and the mid-afternoon pancakes in the pool side restaurant!
The staff were always friendly and polite, as mentioned in other reviews, it really makes a difference to try some swahili with them. On a brief visit to the local supermarket, a staff member on his day off approached us to ask how our honeymoon was going, as he recognised us from the hotel, which we thought was one of those little things that really makes a difference!
We found it easy to arrange trips with our reps within the hotel - we did a 3 days safari and a dhow trip to Wasini Island, both of which were fab. We also visited nearby Haller Park and the Mombassa Crocodile Farm. While we did enjoy Haller Park, we thought the Croc Farm was a bit grubby and we felt a bit sorry for the poor crocodiles ...
While we were at the Nyali Beach Hotel, we saw one monkey within the grounds and this was near the front entrance to the hotel - they certainly didn't cause any problems for us - infact, we would have liked to have seen more! Also, as a serious arachnaphobe, I was really concerned before the holiday about the spiders - I did not see one wild spider the whole time we were there!! The only wildlife we found on our bedroom wall was a little lizard, who soon found his way back out again!
Overall, a fabulous time was had - we still talk about it almost everyday and we hope that once the troubles in Kenya have passed we'll be able to visit again.

“Hideous - Spoilt our honeymoon”

Nyali Beach Hotel

Horendous service. We had such high hopes for our honeymoon, after all it is a once in a lifetime thing. The hotel is filthy and well due refurbishment. The staff weren't expecting our arrival so we never did get the honeymoon package my husband had arranged. Just a plate of rotting food. Throughout the stay we both got ill as a result of the disgusting food. Dispite putting do not disturb on the door we were hounded by staff with silly requests, like can we spray your room with repellant. No mosquito nets. We paid 3000 for this holiday and wanted to return home within a couple of days. Pools are noisey, your slumber is disturbed by a mad PE teacher style woman almost dragging you from your sunbed to play volleyball. Had a massage in the hotel and 6 months later my knee is still playing up and needs treatment. Hotel delayed return of our laundry after safari and then wouldn't let us into restaurant for dinner as hubby was in 3/4 length trousers. Not that the food was fit for anything other than the bin anyway. Overall, just don't bother! Go to the Maldives or something!

“Holidays from Hell .”

Nyali Beach Hotel

I do not know where to start, any way if your idea of a holiday from Hell -then you are welcome to Nyali Beach Hotel .Our dream destination turned into a holiday nightmare. Guests complained of cockroaches in the restaurant and food that was poorly cooked.
We might as well have stayed at home for all the benefit we got from it. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY . No wondor the natives are fighting. We felt like that when we saw the poor state of the hotel & beach. seaweed covering the beach, spiders crawling across the plants and monkeys waking us up with their antics and noises. By the way, Dont try and get a sunbed under the umbrellas. Unless you have been coming to this hotel for 10 years or more your are unlikely to have a chance of joining this exclusive club of ex-pats & retired gentry who have the beds reserved for them by the staff, most of them expecting to be tipped for anything. I think the moral of the story is that you get what you pay for. Holiday for low class or those on a low budget.

“much better than expected”

Nyali Beach Hotel

Arrived on xmas day for three day stay before going on safari. Had room on top floor of garden wing(437) which was very nice, large and fully equipped with everything we could want. Staff excellent, very polite and helpful and didn't feel pushed into tipping but we did anyway.
Food at all times very good and the way they organised for the evening meals to be in different parts of the grounds every day was brilliant. The work they had to put in to transport all the tables and chairs backwards and forwards every day!!!!
Good bands at night - air con in Harry's Bar icy cold so beware. Could do with a few more sun-beds but those that are there were good and plenty of grounds to lie out in. We personally had no hassle from beach boys and didn't really see many on beach at all. Overall very good few days and would definately go back if we went to Kenya again. Shame that our last day was New Years eve and the troubles had started.

Our last 9 days of a Nairobi, Safari and Beach holiday were spent at the Nyali Beach Hotel. We had a room in the Palm Wing so comfortable. Mombasa beaches are paradise on earth. However, the staff at the Nyali Beach absolutely made our holiday. Like others have said a bit of Swahili goes a long way, jambo, and asante sana (thank you very much) are greatly appreciated please don't forget to tip, wages are low. My daughter and I had a great time being pampered by Doreen and Sylvia in Top Knot beauty salon in the hotel. They are two of the loveliest people we have met and work very hard and have a great sense of humour. We had manicure's, pedicures, wash and blow dry and I even had my hair beautifully coloured. Their rates are very cheap in comparison to the UK so we had the works. You can even have various types of massages and here Alex is your man. Also if you see Tatu around she does the most beautiful henna work. My daughter had a beautiful pattern drawn on her ankle and I had my wrist 'done' she will even redo before you come home, henna just gradually fades away, but my memories of Nyali Beach and its staff will never fade. Thank you everyone.
