Feel compelled to write a review after reading some not so good ones!
We stayed at Nyali Beach Hotel for 8 days in August for our honeymoon and we had the most fabulous holiday - definetely once in a lifetime experience!
We found the food was better than we expected and we ate a large variety of foods - including ice cream and jelly, which we had been told before leaving the UK would make us ill - and enjoyed it all! While I had never been a big seafood fan, I have come back from the holiday with a new found appreciation for it, after sampling lobster, king fish, dorado fish and the fabulous 'Nyali fish and chips', which is Red Snapper and is delicious! We also enjoyed the terrace BBQ and the mid-afternoon pancakes in the pool side restaurant!
The staff were always friendly and polite, as mentioned in other reviews, it really makes a difference to try some swahili with them. On a brief visit to the local supermarket, a staff member on his day off approached us to ask how our honeymoon was going, as he recognised us from the hotel, which we thought was one of those little things that really makes a difference!
We found it easy to arrange trips with our reps within the hotel - we did a 3 days safari and a dhow trip to Wasini Island, both of which were fab. We also visited nearby Haller Park and the Mombassa Crocodile Farm. While we did enjoy Haller Park, we thought the Croc Farm was a bit grubby and we felt a bit sorry for the poor crocodiles ...
While we were at the Nyali Beach Hotel, we saw one monkey within the grounds and this was near the front entrance to the hotel - they certainly didn't cause any problems for us - infact, we would have liked to have seen more! Also, as a serious arachnaphobe, I was really concerned before the holiday about the spiders - I did not see one wild spider the whole time we were there!! The only wildlife we found on our bedroom wall was a little lizard, who soon found his way back out again!
Overall, a fabulous time was had - we still talk about it almost everyday and we hope that once the troubles in Kenya have passed we'll be able to visit again.
