“A great hotel”

Travellers Beach Hotel

We stayed at Travellers beach club from the 28th May for 13 nights. The room was right on the seafront with a large balcony. The cleaner came daily to change the beds & kept the room immaculately clean.

The food was good & varied with plenty of choice, breakfast consisted of fruit, cereals, yoghurt + a good selection of hot & cold foods. For lunch we used the snack bar, which had a selection of burgers, calamari, steak & chips + toasted sandwiches, for dinner there was a good choice of meals with delicious desserts. The staff are really helpful & friendly.

There is a Barclays bank next to the hotel & on occasion we travelled into Mombasa on the local buses with no problems & felt completely safe.

We also went on a 3 day safari with North Mombasa Tours, which was well organised, we saw the big 5 thanks to the driver Ben & the guide DR Fire who had eyes like hawks when it came to spotting the animals.

We really enjoyed our trip to the Tumaini home, visiting Joan & the children was a highlight of our trip, Joan does a great job & the children are fantastic & so well behaved.

We would definately recommend this hotel & a visit to see Joan & the orphanage, we are already saving up for our next visit.

We have stayed in Travelers Beach on May 19 2008 for 7 nights. And we loved it.
*** Hotel is situated right on the beach so from our window we had a brilliant view on the Ocean. There is lots of Palm Trees and other green trees and bushes around the hotel and pool and its looks really great. We were afraid of the rainy season. But it all went great. We had sunshine for 3 days and clouds for 2 (when we actually went for safari and it doesn’t rain at all inside the land). its rains for couple minutes and it stops. It is still extremely hot and we all got sun burns:-) we went in May because the price is so much cheaper and we didn’t regret any minute. Now couple tips:
***
Entertainment:
There are daily evening performance for guests of local groups, bingo plays or volley ball and etc.
We went snorkeling on coral cay and it was the most amazing thing we have ever done in our life. The amount of wild life that we have seen underwater was just amazing.
We have booked our safari with Freddy Munthegi. 2 days Tsavo East and West with the Masai village. Although it is a long drive it is so worth it to see it all. We had luch in Ngulia Lodge where we saw around 30 elephants drinking water and we slept in voi lodge, leopard’s favorite place. If you want to contact freddy send him an e-mail on [--].
We can honestly recommend him. Some people booked with somak or one of the beach boys and I didn’t heard him complaining either. So the choice is yours.
*** Outside:
There is couple connected pools . They nice and clean. There is plenty of deckchairs with the comfy covers on them.
***
Rooms are very clean and AC is great. They need a little bit of updating but it didn’t bother us, as we just slept in it and spend all the time outside. We walked to Bamburi Beach Hotel and Travellers Beach looks much better from outside. Don’t know how is it inside.
***
Food:
Plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. English breakfast, waffles, omelets, always choice of meat or fish for dinner as well with vegetarian dishes and etc. We ate everything including fruits and creamy desserts and were all right. There is bar with a small selections of snack next to the pool if you get hungry between meals.
We were on all inclusive basis – we were allowed to once to Italian restaurant and Indian restaurant (that’s belongs to the hotel as well) we only visit the Indian. There was a set menu for all inclusive guests but we have enjoyed.
There is as well plenty of drinks to choose from as well.
***
Staff were brilliant and very helpful. We have stayed in many hotels in US and UK and there were just outstanding. We left almost all our holidays clothes to them:-)
Please do take some sweets and pens if you are going to the village. These people, children really needs it and nothing made our day better than smile on their little faces when you hand them a candy,
***
Souvenirs
***
As soon as you step on the beach local beach boys will surround you try to sell you everything. Wait until the last day and bargain the price (you can exchange your clothes as well with them) We had price dropped from 70000 shillings to 2000 so there is a reason to discus the price. Check the hotel shop as well. Prices very reasonable
*** Summarizing Eat, drink, sunbathing, swim and enjoy it. Its all worth it:-)

“Great Family Holiday”

Travellers Beach Hotel

We stayed at the Travellers for 14 nights from 19th May 2008with out 2 kids aged 9 & 5.
We had quite high expectations after reading all the reviews and we were not disappointed. The rooms were large and very clean although very slightly tired. The food was great - none of us were ill, the staff very helpful, their service excellent and the communal areas very attractive and clean.
The animation team did a good job, it wasn't too over the top and we enjoyed the water aerobics and beach volley ball. The kids club was shut due to the lack of guests but a staff member took my daughter off for a couple of hours each day which kept her entertained and gave us a rest. The shows or bingo (which is fun even in a powercut) started at 9.30 each evening, finished by 10pm and then there was a "disco" until 11pm when everything shut down. This suited us perfectly as it meant the kids could stay up til then and we could all go to bed in peace.
The beach was clean (with a bit of sea weed) and it looked like it was raked over each morning (or at low tide). We had a great time walking out at low tide and seeing all the sea life! The water was warmer than the pool!
The beach boys were not as much hassle as we were led to believe and pretty much left us alone when we were on the beach with the kids. Whenever they did come over to talk to us, they were always very polite.
We did a 3 day safari to Tsavo East & West with Freddy. We saw 4 of the big 5 plus a load more we didn't expect to see. We decided to splash out on the vehicle rather than the lodges and we had a large 9 seater truck just for the 4 of us (plus driver) that we could spread out, move about in and the kids could stand on the seats to see out. Definitely saw some envious looks coming out of one camper van!
We used local transport rather than taxis and at no time did we feel unsafe or threatened.
We did find that staff / guides expected to be tipped but if they gave a good service we had no objection. My husband even went looking for a member of staff at the crocodile farm to give him a bigger tip as he had been great.
Feel free to email me if I can be of further help.
Thanks
Plum

Taking advantage of the low prices My husband and I decided to stay once again for the second time this year in the travellers and we were not dissapointed.

wonderful greeting on our return and again nothing was too much trouble for anyone...

much has been said in the previous reviews but for a middle of the road price i dont think you can go far wrong..

The rooms are very large either in standard or sea view large double bed (not two single pushed together) single bed settee - armchair plus a coffee table..there are fridges in the sea view rooms and you can hire one in a standard room..fresh white towels..few bars of soap on a regular basis and clean bedding.. plus plenty of toilet rolls ...

Due to the lack of tourists I didnt expect to see huge amounts of choice for the buffet Dinners but what was offered was hot fresh Delicious and enough to satisfy billy bunter....

Although the North side of the hotel was closed we were allowed to use the quieter pools and all the pools were kept spotless.
My one gripe?
dont have a sea view room 604. the beach crew fill up & clean out the Jet ski`s every day and the stench of petrol comes into the room ....

would I use this hotel again certainly !!!!!

“What a great experience”

The Travellers Beach Hotel is a lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff.

If you travel to Kenya you must take at least a 3 day safari as it is such a wonderful experience. Waking up and looking out of your window and seeing a dozen elephants drinking from the waterhole---it doesnt come better then that for me.

The only minus point i thought was the quality of the Beach and the persistance of the Beach Boys--i know they are only trying to survive but they were a bit intimidating for our 2 young children.

But other than that i would highly recommend a visit to this hotel and also a visit to the Tumaini Orphanage in Bamburi---the children who all have the HIV virus are an absolute delight and our daughter helped out there for a day.
