“Very Romantic Experience”

Ndovu Bonde Tree House

Jul 5, 2008

My now Fiance and I stayed here for the last 2 nights of our 2 week holiday to Kenya. After a weeks safari it was the perfect chill out.

You are picked up from your local hotel by jeep and taken to the Sable Valley passing fantastic plantations and small villages.

When you arrive you are greeted by your Butler with a cold drink and your requests for lunch. The rest of the day is at your leisure. The treehouse itself is lovely and clean with beautiful views across the valley. Just before sunset your Butler will run the jacuzzi with lots of bubbles and will serve you sparkling wine in the jacuzzi. You are then left to enjoy the views and get ready for your 3 course dinner which is served on your balcony by candlelight. After dinner you are served hot drinks and the four poster bed is then rolled out onto the balcony should you wish to sleep under the stars. Which we choose to do and glad we did even though a little strange at first as all you can hear are the noise of the animals and obviously no lighting other than the stars. A bushbaby came to visit the first night as we left him some sugar by the jacuzzi.

The 2nd day you are taken on a walk of the plantations before breakfast to see exactly what is grown in the area. After that the schedule for the day is the same as the day before just relaxing eating and drinking.

The staff are fantastic and couldnt have wished for a more enjoyable stay - so much so on the second night of our stay by moonlight my Fiance proposed!!

WELL WHAT CAN I SAY... WHO SAID THAT ROMANCE WAS DEAD. THE SABLE VALLEY TREE HOUSE ( there are 2 ) are about 45 mins drive from Mombasa South Coast or 40+ kilomaters from Mombasa Airport, Situated in the Shimba Hills BREATHTAKING SCENERY with fantastic sunsets. The tree House is just perfect for a get away from it all and VERY private an ideal location for a wedding and or heymoon. This is expensive but well worth a one or two night stay. (Two is best.)for a special occasion.
In 2007 it was £115 per person per night, all inclusive. you do however get a lot for your money,The Tree house is just perfect,
YOU have your own CHEF, OWN BUTLER,THEY SERVE YOUR MEALS OUT ON THE DECKING .the decking also has a jacuzzie. The room is very comfortable with a 4potser bed which you can wheel out side and sleep under the stars.Meals taken ouside meens that you can whatch the Elephents go by.
The Shinma Hils is well worth a Visit, There is a Game Park and an Elephant Sanctury within driving distance and a walk through the Forest with a GUARD to get to the Water Fall is a must ( the walk is about 6klm )
A wonderful Place which will remain with me.
Oh yes.... you will, most nights get a visit from the Bushbaby..just put a bowl of suger out for him please !!!

“Dated and Dirty, but Great experience”

Saw the fabulous reviews of the treehouse and HAD to stay there. However, since the reviews I've read (now realise they are a few years old!), seems that nothing has been done to the place. The experience overall was fantastic - jacuzzi (filled with warm river water!) overlooking the rainforest with a bottle of bubbly, bushbabies visiting you in the night (great at first, but annoying when they start shrieking) and the chance to sleep under the stars. BUT, everything was filthy and needed an overhaul - to the level that there were ants in the bed - got bitten to death.

We stayed at the Treehouse for 1 night towards the end of September. The drive upto the Treehouse was great in itself, we saw lots of traditional villages and the scenary was amazing. Our driver took his time driving along the bumby roads and told us a lot about the area and different trees and plantations. When we arrived our bags were taken and we were shown to our treehouse.

The room has the 'wow' factor - the four poster bed, decor and furnishings are lovely. You will be amazed by the bathroom - it's all open to plan - there is no wall separating you as you shower and do your business from nature!

We were made some drinks from the all inclusive mini bar and brought a tasty lunch of pasta to tide us over until dinner. The views are breathtaking, it rained for a couple of hours but this did not spoil a thing. We just lazed on the bed watching the rain come down and the mist rising over the valley (after removing a few friendly jumping spiders).

Around 5pm our butler came back to prepare the jacuzzi for us. He presented us with a bottle of asti and some flowers before pouring tons of bubble bath into the jacuzzi (to the point of bubbles flowing down the valley!). It was a truly unforgettable experience to watch the sun come down in such a peaceful and isolated location.

Dinner was served on the balcony and was lovely. The mozzie net was drawn and the lights were turned low to distract any unwanted visitors. You will see loads of gekkos - which are great to watch as they wait around your lights to catch anything which flies near.

The only downside (but can only be expected) is that you will come across some creepy crawlies. The treehouse has a raised roof, so even with the windows and doors shut, insects can come in. We did get a bit paranoid so asked if we could have a can of Doom to remove anything we couldn't encourage to leave.

The next morning, we were woken at a time of our choice and was served tea, followed by a three course breakfast of fruit, homemade pancakes and a fry-up which was great. After packing up to leave at 11am, we were invited on a nature walk to burn off breakfast. Once we returned though they fed us again!

The experience and service was fantastic and the photos we took were great. If you are looking for a secluded romantic getaway, which will make you feel a like a superstar then I recommend this all the way.

If you are staying in Mombassa, the journey took us a couple of hours. If you do book this excursion check with your rep how long the transfer will be. We used up two days of our holiday - we left for the treehouse at 10am and arrived back to our hotel in Mombasa just after 5.30pm the next day. One other note, as there are two treehouses you may share a transfer back to your hotel with another couple. It might be worth finding out which hotel they are staying at as we lost 1hr and a half dropping another couple off in the opposite direction, so insist that two minibuses are sent should this be the case so you dont lose valuable time!

Ndovu Bonde Treehouse.
Affiliated to Pinewood Village in the Shimba Hills about 45 minutes from the beach resort is the Ndovu Bonde Treehouse (ndovubonde).
We spent our last night at the Treehouse. What can I say. This has to rank as one of the most beautiful places on earth.
A personal retreat in the hills, where you can sip wine from your outside Jacuzzi as the sun slips behind the hills. A place where you can roll your 4 poster bed onto the deck and sleep beneath the stars with the sound of grazing elephants just metres below you.
Put simply, the perfect way to end a perfect honeymoon!
