“Fantastic Location & High Quality Staff”

Staying here for a three night stay over Lunar New Year. Staff could not be more helpful. Booked hotel's Mercedes Limo service from airport. Really good driver and felt very safe and comfortable. We were staying on Marriott Rewards, but had booked an upgrade to the Executive level. Initially we were offered rooms on 21st floor (not standard executive level). I asked them to look again and they quickly came up with rooms on the 34th floor, right next to the Executive Lounge and the lifts. No problems - no noise at all and very convenient, with great harbour view. We watched the Victoria Harbour New Year's fireworks from one of our rooms and had a fabulous view of this 20 minute extravaganza.

The room itself was excellent - not at all sure why some people criticise the room sizes. We felt that our room - with a really comfortable king-sized bed - was more than big enough. The bathroom and toiletries were up to normal JW Marriott standards. Excellent chambermaid and turn-down service.

The Exec Lounge is very comfortable, and is spread over two levels (34th and 33rd floors). The Exec Lounge staff - as everywhere - treat civilised, polite guests extremely well. The rude and obnoxious guests also get good service even when it isn't deserved!

We had breakfast (you can make a special request for scrambled eggs), afternoon tea, evening appetisers and lots of alcohol (wine, beers and spirits), as well as late evening chocolates at various times in the Exec Lounge. The only meal we had to buy each day was a small lunch, apart from any special evening meals.

The hotel concierge was excellent. They obtained New Year Evening Parade tickets (special seating) in advance from my email request, and these were ready and waiting on our arrival.

The location is really convenient. You can get a short HK$16 taxi ride to/from the Star Ferry terminal at Central. You can easily walk from the JW Marriott LG level through to Admiralty MTR station, so getting about is really easy.

Of the JW Marriott hotels that we've stayed at, we'd now rank this one 3rd. This is no disgrace as our first ranked is the JW Marriott Phuket - one of the world's finest resorts, followed by the JW Marriott in Bangkok. We'd certainly rate the JW in Hong Kong ahead of any JW Marriott in the USA! e.g Santa Monica, Desert Springs).

What the Hong Kong JW Marriott does supremely well is to blend superb service with a more casual friendliness that is actually genuine - as opposed to the corporate "fixed smile" service that is overly formal at some other 5-star hotels in Hong Kong.

“Excellent service”

We stayed for one week to visit family and friends. With the plane arrival at 11pm, we opted for an airport transfer through hotel concierge. It was well worth the money. With two young sleepy children in our arms, we were greeted and driven to the hotel, then straight up to our room bypassing the check-in desk. It was a simple matter of getting our credit card number and signature before we turned out the lights. Breakfast at the hotel proved to be a bit of an ordeal with the kids running around, so subsequent mornings we just popped down to Pacific Place for breakfast. We needed an extra bathtowel one day and the response to the housekeeping call was within minutes.
I think the hotel is for people who already know the excellent HK transport system well. Admiralty is the central station of HK where the underground trains, bus and taxis meet but you are not really within walking distance of any of the tourist attractions.

“Great location”

Loved the hotel. I stayed there using my Marriott points so I can't comment much on the price. But the rooms were superb-- I even had goldfish in my suite. With status, they delivered free fruit and jasmine tea at checkin. They also give you a bottle or two of free water. All the staff was very nice. The location is amazing-- actually adjacent to wonderful (very pricey) mall where you can grab a bite to eat and wander. It is also right above the train station so you can get around the city soooo easily. From the airport, take the Airport Express train to Hong Kong, and then take the train to Admirality. (By the two different types of tickets at the airport). After you get off the train, follow the signs to the Pacific Place mall and you'll see the entrance to the hotel right inside the mall. An easy train commute if you don't have much luggage. Enjoy HK!

“Not 5* at the moment”

JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong

At check in we decided to upgrade to an executive floor room, for $800 HKD a night + 13% tax. Executive floor is normally 31-35 floor, but because of "some renovation" they had moved the floor to 20-22. Lounge still on 33-35.

Fair enough, was our first reaction, until we got to the room and discovered that it was a standard room. Small and awkwardly laid out to facilitate the "every room is a corner room" style. Meant the entry to the room was narrow and not ideal for luggage storage.

Bathroom was a decent size and well stocked. Necessary magnifying mirror was in place so this guest was happy.

Not so happy to be disturbed multiple times during the night due to a child screaming in the next room, that followed next morning with the commencement of "renovation" before 9am. Now we had accepted a lower floor room to avoid this noise but we still got it so a room change was required.

Eventually got a new room at 6pm. This was a harbour view room on the 15th floor. Room the same as before, view nothing to write home about.

Lounge was a decent size, low ceilings, overly bright (spoiling the wonderful harbour view from this height) and noisy. Some residents seemed never to leave and to almost hold court in the lounge which was intimidating.

Breakfast spread in the lounge was ok, afternoon tea was provided in the lounge (which we didn't take up), hors d'oeuvres also and cocktails as well as night time chocolates.

Must mention though that this was the first executive floor we'd stayed on where we did not have the option to have breakfast in the main dining room or the lounge. Would have liked to have had the option.

Lounge staff in the food area could be brusque but other lounge staff were wonderful.

Swimming pool was overlooked by the "Fish Bar" restaurant which meant that swimming and sunbathing area was not private. This was most obvious when a wedding reception was held in the Fish bar with some of the wedding guests animatedly watching the sunbathing hotel guests.

Some of the hotel facilities, sauna etc were closed for the renovations, which when coupled with the noise, means that this hotel does not merit a 5* rating at this time.

Location is excellent, proximity to MTR etc very convenient. was our room worth an extra $800 HKD a night? No.
