“Wonderful views in luxury”

Harbour Plaza Hong Kong

4 of 5 stars
Hastings, Sussex
May 12, 2008

We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. This was because we took the hotel shuttle bus from the airport and by the time we had dropped everyone else off at a variety of hotels, we began to wonder was ours nice, mediocre, will we wish we'd stayed elsewhere?
However, it was 5 star luxury. The hotel is right on the harbour on the Kowloon side looking out at Hong Kong opposite. We loved all the comings and goings in the harbour and enjoyed walking and travelling on the ferry over to Hong Kong and back.
The room was beautifully appointed and we could want for nothing.
The only downside we could find is that the pool area (on the roof) is a little tired. In particular, the loungers needed updating - but that's just being fussy.

“A good hotel for a first timer”

This was my first time in Hong Kong and I booked this hotel based on the very favourable reviews on Trip Advisor.

The reviews were largely accurate. The hotel is slightly out of the centre but there is a very good and efficient shuttle bus that takes you from the hotel and drops you off right outside the Pen. The driver normally puts his foot down and so this takes about 10 minutes. If you miss the last shuttle bus in the evening, you can jump into one of the red Hong Kong taxi cabs which are very cheap.

The lobby of the hotel is very bright and has wonderful views of Hong Kong Island. We didn't fancy the buffet breakfast in the morning and so we were going to a coffee shop around the corner every day for coffee and a croissant.

Our room was on the 18th floor and it was fine apart from the fact that the toilet didn't flush properly on arrival but that was soon sorted out. I must admit, I didn't find the reception / concierge staff particularly helpful especially when I was trying to book some trips and tours.

Nevertheless, if this is your first time in Hong Kong and you want to stay somewhere relatively clean and cheap, then the Harbour Plaza is the place for you.

“not that great”

I stayed here for 3 nights for work.
Room- compared to other hotels in the area this one would just be average. The tv is old and there are no channels. There is an old musty smell in the hallways, the bathroom is very small, internet access is too slow and too expensive!.
The check in process was less than impressive. We arrived to the hotel at noon and our rooms were not ready yet. We asked for a room to at least shower and get ready for our meeting but the only accommodation that they suggested was to shower in the club gym! After a 15 hour flight the last thing I want to do is lug my suitcase up a staircase (elevator does not go directly to the fitness floor) and get ready in a community bathroom.
Location was too far away from the markets and night life. Not much to do there.
The only thing I liked was the pool. It's on the rooftop and has a great view of the harbor.

“A Fantastic Hotel”

Although not right in the heart of Kowloon this Hotel allows you to step back away from all the hustle and bustle of the TST and Mon Kok areas.

The free shuttle into TST was absolutely great and saved on Taxi fares also with the Hung Hom ferry only 2 minutes walk away getting to HK Island was quick and simple.

Shopping with the locals at Whampoa Gardens we felt was much better that in TST or Mon Kok market areas. You were not being approached all the time to buy goods and if you just wanted to look that was fine. Prices were even comparable with those at the ladies market and Fa Yuen Street.

We booked a Harbour Club Harbour View room and we were not disappointed with the standard of the room which was quite spacious, also with the use of our own club lounge area for breakfast as well as afternoon tea and then drinks and finger food from 6pm all included in the price of the Harbour Club package.

Our room was cleaned at least twice a day that we knew of and all the staff were absolutely fantastic and a special mention to Kenny who looked after our room for us and CJ Singh on the front door who always made you feel welcome upon your return.

This is a hotel that we will stay at again when we return to Hong Kong with our teenage children. i would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Hong Kong for business or pleaseure as it was an absolute delight.

“Excellent base in Hong Kong”

Harbour Plaza Hong Kong

4 of 5 stars
Melbourne, Australia

We were looking for a base to explore Hong Kong with our 2 young children and booked the HP after reading earlier reviewers comments which by and large were pretty close to the mark in terms of our experience.
We booked an Ocean Suite for the four of us and the Hotel had no problem putting in two additional roll away beds (HK400++ ea) for the children in the lounge/kitchenette room. The view of Victoria Harbour provided a spectacular backdrop with everything from ocean liners to Chinese junks literally sailing past the windows but it is worth noting that the hotel's location means that you will only get a glimpse of the 8pm light show from the hotel. However as mentioned in earlier reviews the location, whilst not right in the middle of "downtown", is still really quite good as the cross harbour ferry to Central is virtually at the doorstep, taxis are always at the door and are extremely cheap (our most expensive trip was from the base of the peak tram on HK island back to the hotel - HK90.00 including tolls, most other trips were HK30-50) and the hotels shuttle bus provides a terrific half hourly service to TST which will drop you off in the best possible spot to see the show.
The accommodation and service was of the standard you would expect for this level of hotel and the staff were professional and courteous.
The roof top pool has an amazing view of the HK skyline.
There are plenty of shops, restaurants etc just a short stroll from the hotel including banks and supermarkets etc.
The only slight criticism we could make is that the breakfast buffet, whilst adequate, is probably not quite up to the mark when compared against similar standard hotels we have stayed in, in other parts of Asia. We ended up going to local coffee shops/cafes instead - offering an easy breakfast alternative.
In summary, were we satisfied -yes, and we would probably happily consider staying there again next time.
