“Lovely Langham!”

I traveled solo to HKG for 4 nights, booked a room on the Club Floor, and was thrilled with my upgrade to a spacious suite. The Langham has the elegance of a fine British hotel (sister property in London), with the Asian service that you would expect in Hong Kong. My LR suite was fairly simple with couch, desk, and flat screen TV. Bedroom was decent sized, and the bathroom was wonderful with large shower and jacuzzi tub.

I called to request a converter for my camera charger, and they brought it up with 2 minutes AND plugged it in for me--something I'm not accustomed to. I loved the attentive Asian hospitality.

The Club Floor was terrific--nice breakfast, hot appetizers and wine for evening happy hour (4-8pm?), newspapers, free internet on the 2 PC's, and really nice staff. The main street below my room gets a lot of bus traffic which can be noisy on weekdays, although the rooms are insulated so it wasn't bad.
Langham is a United Mileage Plus partner, so I even got 2,000 miles for my stay.

I found the staff at this hotel to be exceptional, and they really went to great lengths to make everything special. Examples include turndown service with your slippers laid out on a towel next to the bed, and all of the little touches that you appreciate as a solo traveler.

The American diner (NY Deli?) in the hotel was a great place to grab a tuna sandwhich and fries for lunch one day when I craved a change from my Asian meals.

Location is great--about 4 blocks from the main Star Ferry terminal and close to the MTR subway. Aqua Luna is an uber-cool cocktail lounge located across the street, with great views of Hong Kong.

Only negative is that although the concierges were very nice, some of them did not speak English at the level you would expect for English-speaking guests. This made it more difficult to find some locations based on their directions (I had a similar experience with some of the concierges at the Renaissance.)

Definitely visit the Chuan Spa located at the top of their sister hotel, Langham Place in Mongkok (10 mins by MTR subway). My spa visit and massage was my favorite splurge in HKG. The Spa combines Eastern and Western treatments in a beautiful, serene setting. It was the perfect cure for jetlag, and also features a gorgeous rooftop pool where you can order lunch, etc.

Enjoy!

“Fantastic Little Jewel”

I have stayed here twice, once in 2003, and once in 2005. Both times I booked a Langham Suite. Fantastic Hotel, Fantastic Service. And that really says something for a city filled with opulent 5 Star Hotels.

Each time I arrived at the airport, the limo driver was ready with my name on a card, and whisked me away to the hotel. As soon as I arrived, the Assistant Manager walked me into the hotel and did a private check in. Fantastic service and enthusiasm.

I know that the new Langham place has opened up in Mongkog with supposedly great rooms. However, at the time I stayed there, I think Langham's Suites were the best around. Pretty good price of US$400 a night for a 600 sq foot room with plenty of space, modern furnishings, high tech gadgets, great views, large plasma TV and entertainment system, great luxurious marble bathroom and an incredible bed. No complaints whatsoever with the room or service.

Location is the best possible, right in TST, a minute away from Nathan Rd. I know other people who have complained that the regular rooms are rather small. I don't know about that. However, if you can afford it, I would definitely recommend this hotel to splurge in!

“Uncomfortable stay”

The Langham, Hong Kong

This hotel is rated as 5 star somehow, and many people on this forum have said its great, so I would like to share my experience.

I arrived in the afternoon and was taken to the club lounge to check in, the staff were polite enough and told me that I had free internet access in the hotel, when I logged onto the computer all I had to do was enter my room number and surname. I thought great.

I had just got off a 12 hour flight and needed some sleep, when I got into the room I was a little horrified. How was this a 5 star hotel? the room was tiny and cramped and looked like a Motel 6 or a Premier Travelodge rather then a 5 star hotel, the room was tiny, they had just added afew items to make it look good like a glass sink in the bathroon and non branded plasma screen television on the wall. I am not saying this hotel wasn't smart, but in a place like Hong Kong, this is no where near as good as the Conrad, in the Conrad the rooms are maybe 3 or 4 times as large as this with even the toilets having aquavision televisions.

5 minutes after getting into the room I could hear the people next foor talking, then I heard their tv, it wasn't like they had it playing very loud, but it was the fact that whoever designed this place went for small shoddy rooms with cheap sound insulation in the walls.

I called the club lounge and told them I couldn't sleep, they didn't seem phased. I was really frustrated.

So I whipped out my laptop and went online, saw charges, but was reassured it was free, so went online (only to be told it was chargeable when I checked out).

Eventually I got to sleep that night only to be awoken by intimate noises from the next room, again this is something you expect at a motel 6 or a premier travelodge but not a 5 star hotel. I felt bad for them because I could literally hear everything, and it made me feel awkard.

After they were finished, (all of 2 minutes later, lol) I managed to get some shut eye. But for some reason the house keeping staff just don't care about do not disturb signs, I kept getting knocks on the door and was shouting out come back later. Eventually one of the house keepers came in. I told her to come back later so she left. I was so tired, managed to nod off again only to have house keeping call me about 10 minutes later and ask why I didnt want my room cleaned. I was so tired at this stage, and just couldn't get back to sleep. Was tossing and turning in my bed for about 15 minutes and then the tv from next door went back on. Great!

The next morning I went to the club lounge for breakfast, which by the way is no where near 5 star standard, its variety is very limited. The staff attending this breakfast were a joke, laughing, flirting and joking with each other rather then serving the guests, I got given tea with no milk and didnt get the milk for ages cos no one paid me any attention, so my tea went cold. They also never cleared plates off my table even when I had finished.

The next day I spoke with the concierge about how to get to the office I needed to go to, he showed me the way and I told him of my plans to go to China. I have been to China afew times and because I work out of Shenzhen there I don't bother with a visa as you get a 5 days stay automatically on a British Passport. But this concierge told me there was no way I could do that and insisted I need a full on visa, so being the fool I am I gave him my passport and parted with around 1000HKD to get my visa done. I thought maybe the rules had changed, but they hadn't. When I got to China I just realised he propbably didn't understand English. Now this is a 5 star hotel run by the English and is frequented by English and American guests, why is there a concierge who doesnt spreak English properly?

In terms of location, its pretty good I guess if you are there for shopping, because it is near ladies market.

In terms of the rooms, its nothing special, if you want an amazing hotel in Hong Kong pay the extra and stay at the Conrad.

In terms of the service, again its not great.

In terms of amenities in the hotel, its not great, the bar is very small no atmosphere, the restaurants are not very good either. Just to give you an example, the "chunky chips" are in fact french fries.

The spa on the top floor gave me sub standard service and treeatment was short for the price I paid.

The Langham Hotel in Hong Kong is wonderful hotel with excellent service. We felt compelled to make sure we post our 1st review on TripAdvisors because we were just so delighted with the staff, service, and hotel amenities. We went to Hong Kong for both business and pleasure. The hotel was ideally for located for both. It is super clean, well appointed, and comfortable! Please make sure you say hello to Joseph in the dining room! He greeted us every morning with a warm hello and sincere interest in our day & stay! He is exemplifies why the hotel service was top notch!

“A very nice hotel”

I have stayed in this hotel many times and found the staff to be extremely attentive. The Customer Service Manager (Glenn) is very helpful and considerate and I think that there are many loyal customers to this place.

This stay, like so many others, involved a nice room and a good breakfast (almost too much choice), however they are now in need of a little refurbishment and polishing - but are always clean and very spacious for Hong Kong.

Unlike an earlier review I have always found the concierge staff to be fabulous....but then I guess it is how you treat / speak to people that determines reactions. I can't get too excited about newspapers to be honest.

The pool and gym are small but I never plan to spend too long in them!

All in all, another great stay and a quality hotel - trust me.
