“Grand and Royal indeed!”

I together with my elderly mom and best friend stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong from April 5-8, 2008 and it was stay fit for Royalty! I love the interiors from the lobby to the hallways to the rooms! When I arrived, there was a long queue at the check-in counter but service was truly efficient. We stayed in a family room (one single and one queen sized bed) which I booked thru www.agoda.com. I thought I got a bargain but when I checked the hotel website I found out that I paid slightly higher so better reserve thru www.royalplaza.com.hk/ to get a better deal! My deal comes without breakfast but you can go to any restaurant nearby!

The room was big and spacious. The bathroom is quite small but it was okay that way. I love the air-conditioning because It really works! My room can be freezing cold if I want to! TV is a flat screen LCD so it’s quite modern!

The hotel has a lot of interesting places to go for shopping around. First is the Grand Century Place which is integrated to the hotel with shops and restaurants plus a food court! The flower goldfish, Fa Yuen Street and Ladies Markets are also around.

Transportation wise there is the MTR which is just located down stairs and another line, the Mongkok station which is like a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Yes it’s quite far to some of the happening places but it has a very nice and FREE shuttle bus service that goes to Tsim Sha Tui (drop off at Harbour City, a luxury mall and The Peninsula Hotel which is near the Clock Tower, Avenue of Stars, the Star Ferry Pier and the observation deck) and back to the hotel. The first bus from the hotel leaves at 7:30 am and the last bus going back to the hotel (pick-up is at the Peninsula Hotel drop off where other hotel shuttle service use) is at 9:30 p.m.

Just right outside the lobby (a 30 second walk) is the K6 drop-off and pick-up point of the Airport express shuttle service which will bring you to the Kowloon Station of the Airport Express, the fastest trains to and from the airport so if you are staying at this hotel the best and most comfortable option is to take the Airport express. Currently they are offering discounts as much as 40% off for groups of 2, 3, and 4! But if you’re on a budget, you can take the A21 bus for only HK$33 one-way that drops you to Prince Edward West Street which is just around 15-20 minute walk.

The Staff is courteous and very helpful. You might encounter language problems with some housekeeping staff but it’s forgettable.

I truly recommend this hotel to everyone!

Don't be put off by hotel's location, Airport Express to Kowloon and the K6 coach to the hotel's front door takes care of your arrival and departure, and the local MTR station (less than 10 minutes stroll through the flower market) gives rapid access to much of Kowloon and the main island attractions.

The hotel room (Superior) was just that....large, well furnished, spotless with crisp laundry and deep feather pillows. The food choice (served on a buffet, come and come again basis) was outstanding, it was well cooked and thoughtfully presented.

The staff were universally attentive and polite with no hint (as suggested by one or two others) of a "don't care" attitude. We were rapidly and efficiently booked in, greeted by every staff member with a genuine smile, and when it came to paying the bill we were truly amazed at how little the whole experience had cost us.

We ourselves are quite "picky" people but we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to even our most fastidious of friends. True, it is not a second Peninsula but it is certainly the best hotel we've stayed in for many years.

“The best so far...”

We stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel from March 27-30, 2008 and it is by far the best hotel experience we had in HK. We were pleasantly surprised of the clean, big rooms! (much bigger than those of the other hotels we've stayed in in HK). We requested for 2 connecting rooms and was impressed when the reception staff upgraded us to the 18th floor where 2 connecting rooms were available. Breakfast is good too!

The hotel is connected to a big mall which is a big plus. It is also very near the Fan Yuen street market (about 5 minutes walk) and walking a bit further will get you to the Ladies Night Market. One can walk to the Prince Edward MTR station in 10 minutes.

After a tiring day of shopping and sightseeing, it feels nice to come "home" to our room. My family and I would definitely stay at Royal Plaza on our next HK visit.

I spent a week here in March and I wasn't impressed. The hotel is ok but nothing out of the ordinary. It was my first visit to Hong Kong and if I had to book a hotel for a new trip I would chose on close to the harbour overlooking the beatiful views there. Kowloon is a bit like the backstreets of Shanghai so if it's a "Chinese" experience you're after go for this hotel. If you're after a more upscale, Euro/US like stay go for Hong Kong Island.

“Nightmare stay at Royal Plaza”

Royal Plaza Hotel

We stayed at the Royal Plaza for 4 nights at the end of our honeymoon. From start to finish it was a complete disaster.
My husbands grandfather had died just the week before and we arrived in Hong Kong to find our luggage lost, neither of which were anyone's fault.
But on the morning of the funeral my husband slipped and fell in the hotel bathroom cutting his nose open. He had to go to hospital having 5 stitches and because of this missed his grandfathers funeral.
The hotel staff were totally unhelpful and didn't even seem to care that a guest had such a serious accident on their premises.
Nobody came up to the room to see where he had fallen or to take details of the accident.
I spoke to the manager asking for a letter from the hotel stating how he had obtained the injury which would make my travel insurance claim easier. They were not prepared to do this and they basically wanted to wash their hands of us.
I could have understood this reaction if we had been claiming liability from them, but all we cared about by this point was getting home.
We took advantage of the spa facilities and both booked a swedish relaxation massage with reflexology. This is serious misadvertisement! The ladies were definitely not trained in reflexology and the massage was the least relaxing hour of my life. if I wanted a painful Thai massage I would have asked for one.
We then paid for a shuttle bus connection from the hotel on the morning of our departure, informing them we needed to be at the airport for 6am. Whilst on the bus the driver told us he was picking up from another hotel at 6am so we would not get there by the time we had requested.
My husband called the hotel asking them why they had booked us onto a bus which would not get us to the airport at the time we had requested. The reply was that if we did not think we would make our flight we should get off the bus and make our own way to the airport.
I am making a full complaint to the hotel now that we are back home, but I would not advise anyone to stay there if they expect friendly and caring staff, and a safe envioronment for their holiday.
