“Loved the beach”

I stayed a Waling Waling with a couple of co-workers. The room was ok, nothing really to write home about.

However, when you walk out of the hotel, you are greeted by the most beautiful beach. The sand is called sugar sand and the water is crystal clear. I spent most of my time in a cabana or laying on the beach. I was absolutely gorgeous.

The meals are ok. There aren't a lot of choices, so if you don't like it, you have to go somewhere else. But, you can walk a few minutes and find more restaurants.

As much as possible, go through a travel agency instead of contacting the hotel directly. Do not expect immediate response to your enquiries BUT after you book they will pester you with emails to pay! Its normal with Boracay hotels to expect full payments BEFORE you arrive. Oh, and dont expect that the resort staff would know what your package is if you were talking with their office in Manila or vice versa. Different office locations, different people.... very confusing for ONE hotel.

We stayed there as a favour to our friends who got married there. The waiters and staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room was nice and clean though a bit tired. Breakfast was a let down as the food selection was very minimal nd the standards are very poor (cold food). Consequently, my friend and I had bad cases of food poisoning thus ruining 2 days of our stay in Boracay. The hotel was kind enough to offer to pay the doctor's bill but nonchalantly dismissed the incident soon after. I guess its normal in this hotel???!!! Especially since we found out that a few more of the wedding guests got food poisoning afte the reception including the groom!!!! As this is apparenly not a big deal, the hotel didnt do much. Accrding to them, its a normal thing! (What the... right?)

I would not recommend this hotel as you can get much better value else where. Food poisoning seems to be common as we have friends which got sick there during 2007 christmas period and if the response that we got from management is a prediction we dont expect this to be rectified anytime soon as the bride and groom told us that they did not care instead pointed a finger at other hotels which apparently had worse cases of food poisoning.

Security is pretty good though. There are hidden cameras at the beachfront which proved essential after a theft occured during the reception by one of their staff. The theft was once again blown off though as a small incident. They didnt care that the person who had their items stolen needed to cancel credit cards, file police reports, and also spend 1 day worried.

We will definitely go back to Boracay and try to enjoy all our days sickness free nex time. BUT NOT to Waling Waling anymore. If we were to pay that much again, we would expect much much more from a supposed 5 star hotel where food poisoning is NOT a normal thing for them and service is at par to international standards. Good thing that the wedding reception was fantastic, but i give that credit to guests like us NOT the hotel (Set up was pretty good though). :)

Verdict: Find some place else. There are a lot of choices. Not worth your headache.

1.Forgot airport pick-up: Waling-waling forgot to send an airport pick up for our party of six. Luckily, we are locals and we were able to book a ride to the terminal. But the airport pick up was part of the deal. How did Waling-Waling resolved this? The hotel said that instead of refunding us the cost, we would just have free dinner. Take note: Waling Waling restaurant is much more expensive than the restaurant choices in Station 2. Thus, we didn’t really get “reimbursed”.

2.“Upgraded” to a beachfront room: We initially booked a “villa” with Waling Waling. Initial booking were for six people, but we called a few months before December and told Waling Waling’s reservations office that there are now 9 people. When we got there, we were not able to get a villa because we were told that renovations were not completed of some sort or that it was full (couldn’t remember exactly but the excuse was kind of lame). We were then “upgraded” to one beachfront room instead with two queen beds and one bathroom. There were 6 of us in that room with one bathroom. To make matters worse, we were told that there is no room for the other 3 people and they were instead placed in another hotel that is very spartan. As a background, we booked the villa thinking that it is some sort of a private cabin that has enough room and accommodate a huge party. Instead we were told that the villa is actually smaller than the beachfront room. We don’t know for sure if we were just taken for a spin.

3.Suggestion form never came: We asked for a suggestion form because of the service slip-ups that have happened. We were promised that it will be sent to our room by a gentleman who was at the front desk. Guess what, it never came.

4.Policy over customers’ best interests: On new year’s day, we requested for foot massage services. We were told that they are all on vacation on new year’s day. Somehow, we found three massage ladies from a different hotel. Surprises of surprises, we were told that Waling Waling that there is an exclusive club of massage service providers that are allowed into the hotel and these three ladies from a different hotel are not allowed in. We asked the front desk whether they can make an exception since Waling Waling certified massage providers are all out that day. The front-desk guy (same guy who never sent the suggestion form) said that it is their policy not to allow these massage service providers into their hotel. When we told him that this was not in the best interest of their customers, he said he knows that and will ask management. He said he will get back to us in 15 minutes! When we told him that we are not leaving until he makes the call, we were able to get an answer in less than 1 minute. After so much haggling, we were allowed to get our massage.

There are some redeeming factors for Waling Waling.
1.The area and beachfront is great.
2.There are some truly friendly service people.

“Goldilocks”

Waling Waling Beach Hotel

When we got to the hotel, our reserved room wasn't ready (i asked for 2 beds). They gave us a temporary room (1 bed) and when i checked again a few hours later, they said it still wasn't ready and that the air conditioner wasn't working. They then sent us to a room on the 1st floor until i had to ask for a new room because the drain in the bathroom smelled. I again had to wait a couple of hours. Finally, the lady at the reception gave us a room on the 2nd floor and it was what i had expected all along. So within a span of 24 hours, i had moved to 3 rooms. I felt like Goldilocks and thought my trip was going to be ruined. Finally the 3rd room was just right. The price of the food was comparable to that in the U.S. so some of the time we just walked to the other part of the beach to get a better deal as far as food. The cabanas on the beach front were GREAT!! It was very relaxing and picturesque. The staff were friendly and polite. The lady at the reception who helped me (I believe her name was Nadine) was extremely courteous and definitely knew what customer service was. I dealt with 2 other people at reception during the time I was trying to rectify my room situation and they pretty much just smiled and said "sorry", which infuriated me even more. I still have to write 'nadine' a commendation letter because she at least tried or looked like she was trying to see what she could do to fix the situation. So all in all, aside from the whole room fiasco, I had a great time at the resort.
